The need for an evidence base for nursing practice is widely accepted. However, what evidence is and how nurses might appraise and apply it to their practice is still a matter of some debate. This book guides the student nurse through the process of identifying, appraising and applying evidence in nursing practice. It first explores differing sources of evidence and information, and guides the reader in understanding what are valid sources. Next it explains the key skills of critiquing research in order to choose the right research to apply to practice. It considers also how subjective experience and working with others can contribute to an evidence base for practice. Finally the book considers how the nurse can apply evidence to practice - both in clinical decision making and in making positive changes to practice.
