First edition and one of the rare copies printed on better paper and with plates of Winckelmann?s catalogue of Baron de Stosch?s collection of ancient engraved stones, gems. His catalogue is important in the history of gem collection and study, and set the standard for a long time. Most copies are without illustrations. The plates, mostly by Johann Adam Schweikart, were taken from the prepared but unpublished continuation of Stoch?s earlier ?Gemmae antiquae caelatea? There number varies from 8 (Sinkankas) to 12 (Zazoff).
