The dust jacket show edge wear, scuffs and scratches on the front cover, spine and back cover, the top right side of the front cover is slightly chipped as well as the top of the spine. The outside text block show signs of wear. Interior in very good condition apart some pages that show signs of have been bent.; "The Baur Collection of netsuke is remarkable, both for the great variety of subjects and the great number of carvers represented. In addition it contains a striking number of true masterpieces. At the same time the collection is not so well balanced as one might wish it to be, some important artists missing altogether, others being almost over-represented. This has of course also its advantages. This catalogue only illustrates 1,200 pieces of the 1,700 odd of the whole collection. We have therefore selected an ensemble of pieces that could be accomodated within the limits of a volume convenient to handle and consult.
