Artikelbeschreibung des Verkäufers

First edition. 63pp. 1 vols. 8vo. A rare and important pro-American answer to Samuel Johnson's Taxation No Tyranny.", the anonymous author writes: "The very title of your pamphlet is delusion. No man has ever said that taxation is, in itself, tyranny; nor will you say, that it may not become so, by abuse, or by want of authority in the imposers of it." The work argues that the colonial argument for no taxation without representation is sound and that the colonists were entitled to the same rights as those in Great Britain. Howes suggests the author to be John Wilkes. Adams "American Controversy" 75-5; Courtney, p. 126; Sabin 1657; Howes A288 Later cloth, leather label. Provenance: William L. Clements (morocco booklabel); later booklabel.
