Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - Philip recently moved with his family to LA. He is constantly bullied and considered different from the others both because he is new in town and most importantly for the color of his skin. He still has connections with his African heritage and Cameroon. Thanks to the ultra technological glasses stolen from Doctor Chang, he is able to communicate with the glasses and learn math and physics instantly, permitting him to succeed in school. The only person with whom he feels connected is Rose. So, a new and sincere romance develops throughout the book. In the end, everything works well for the two lovebirds (even the medical operation of his mom) and he can finally feel accepted by the other students and in society in general. Phillip's story become eventually known around the world in the end. Overall, the play is well written, effective in its simple but vivid language and realistic (despite the presence of the ultra-advanced technology glasses), with an abundance of important social issues (racism, bullies, own identity and social acceptance) that are marvelously tangled together.…

Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - An enthralling book on monkeys and apes of the rainforests. Fascinating facts about several primate species are reflected and appealingly narrated from experiential encounters in the wilderness of Borneo. The author brilliantly takes readers through the evolution of man by selectively highlighting the physical features and behavioural biology of the species discussed in the book. Unprecedented destructions of the rainforests have driven countless animal and plant species to the brink of extinction, including monkeys and apes. Immediate and effective conservation of the rainforest habitats remain their last hope. In this book, the author is advocating mindful approaches to saving these endangered species from disappearing forever. Evolutionarily, we need to recognise the unique commonality between us humans and the primates. The connectedness goes beyond the evolution of morphological changes and adaptable features. We also share the genesis of learning behaviour and building of culture. Additionally, the book is delightfully illustrated with drawings by the author himself as he reveals the science of nature through the eyes of a naturalist.…

Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - Miriam Cordell would do anything to protect those closest to her, especially her family if put in a position to do so. Many years would pass before she would be put in such a position. Her thinking of protection would include doing things above the law. She had no qualms of doing what she had to do. Her marriage to Jack Cordell provided her and their children a very comfortable and happy life. This fairy tale existence would abruptly come to an end. After visiting her sister, she started that long drive down a dark road in the Hollywood hills home. Miriam picked up a hitchhiker starting the chain of events that would affect the lives of the Cordell family for the next thirty decades; of world wars, espionage, child ignored by a father, bribery, sibling rivalry, a mother's mistrust and secrets kept and murder. Even when the Cordell sons grew into men, Jack continued his animosity toward the younger son Trace, while twins Jack Jr., and Al were doted by their father. Miriam knew of her husband's treatment of their youngest son was because of that night she was attacked. Jack Jr. and Al had blond hair and blue eyes like their father while Trace had dark brown hair and brown eyes like his mother. It just added into Jack Sr.'s belief that Trace was not his son. Miriam would bide her time for the right time and place to make Jack believe differently. It took a murder for the truth of Trace' conception to finally come out but many years later. After the murder of Miriam's antagonist, Jack pleaded guilty to manslaughter thus protecting his family from the truth of the true murderer. Once out of prison, Jack kept his secret from Miriam and his sons. The whole sorted story would come out in a letter penned by Jack to his sons after he and Miriam had passed away. At the end, the Cordell sons vowed to help those who suffered in the hands of unscrupulous people, no matter what for love of family.…

Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - Fighting for Repose is a gripping, suspenseful, intense true-story account of Harry Peterson's service in Vietnam onboard the Navy hospital ship, USS Repose (AH-16). As a nineteen-year-old electrician working in the bowels of the 450-feet ship, he traversed Da Nang's coast along the demilitarized zone, with his ship admitting and caring for critically wounded American servicemen by the hundreds. In his foreword, Alvin J. Hower, author of No Greater Service: A Peace Corps Photo Memoir, writes, 'Harry Peterson's story reminds me of Forrest Gump! At an early age, Harry, like Forrest, is deemed a slow learner (but with a bad knee not leg), was bullied, had a love interest that was possibly involved in drugs in one way or another, and Harry was sent to Vietnam. But, like Forrest, Harry is an endearing character that always did the right thing.'Full of life lessons on survival and laced with insights on enduring war, PTSD, and dyslexia (that was not diagnosed until he was in his 60s), this memoir will inspire you to always do your best to persevere and follow your moral compass.…
