Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - Unlike any other city in the world, Paris has underneath it a whole other urban space comprised of abandoned rock quarries, waterways, a sophisticated sewer system, a dense subway system, shopping centers and catacombs. Throughout history stories have been told of political dissidents, thieves, partying beatniks, spelunkers, artists and phantoms, all wandering in a subterranean city of dark under the City of Light. Now you can descend with the author as she goes down to see for herself, meeting the people who dwell in this underworld.

Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - Anyone who has ever had the vile experience of being betrayed, can most certainly attest to the complete and utter devastation it causes upon their hearts, minds, and souls. The over-whelming engulfment of gloom that continues to suffocate their very existence.Especially when the one that commits this terribly harsh offense, happens to be one's parent. My book which is a fiction novel, titled 'Beyond Betrayal' is approximately 55,000 words in length, is set within the heart of a young child, by the name of Lysa Mathews. A child, who from the very beginning of her young and tender life, feels the sole necessity to become her 'own' mother. All of little Lysa's life lessons are taught to her in very direct, forceful and sometimes cruel ways. From the many 'uncles' placed in her life by her mother, who prefers that she be called; Rachael, to the constant and desperate cries of wanting to know the identity of her father. Without warning, Lysa is sent to live with an 'aunt' she barely knows. On the far too few phone conversations with Rachael, being told that she would be sent for 'soon'. 'Soon', subsequently took four years. After a very reluctant re-union with Rachael and 'Uncle' Joey; the only male figure in her life who ever made her feel like she 'counted', Lysa is forced to face many unfavorable situations. The identity of her father is finally made evident to her and for the first time in her life she is at last, allowed to feel alive. Then only to experience the knowledge of his life and the sorrow of his death in the span of 48 hours. Lysa is sent a letter along with a 'gift', both from her father, with a statement from him that the 'gifts' significance would be made clear to her at a later time in her life. After a brutal rape, which produces a child, a move to Grand Lillian's, her grandmother; whose lessons about life, prove to be fruitful to Lysa, and fifteen years later, the revelation of the 'gift' is finally revealed, but there's a life threatening price to pay.An introduction to a brother she never thought she'd meet and finding out she has other grandparents, along with her soon to be husband, Marcus, and her beautiful daughter, Na-yah, Lysa begins to feel more alive every day.She begins planning for her double wedding with her best friend, Angela. Life is great, until the one person she thought she had successfully gotten out of her life, pops in again and with her, the usual painful, sordid, disturbing B.S. that inevitably follows her where-ever she seems to be.Her soon to be husband, laying unconscious in a hospital , her daughter kidnapped, and the 'gift' from her father, hanging in the balance of it all.If all the drama isn't bad enough, Lysa is forced to deal with Rachael once more and there are no rules. She's decided that she will not be betrayed by Rachael ever again.Lysa and Rachael NOT A GOOD COMBINATION!!!!!

Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - Collected Poems, 1937 -- 2007, is an unusual mixture of serious and light verse written over his adult life by Jack Beatty. The poems are relatively short, most are less than one page. the subject matter ranges from description of a magnificent sunset on the Oregon Coast, to World War II, to the war in Iraq and our own challenge to the Rule of Law. A sketch of a few of the poems indicates the field they cover. The poem Air Raid reminds us of the Nazi attack on Poland that ignited W W II. Earl Baldwin of Bewdly marks Britain's failure to appreciate that peril. View from the window above recreates a Sunday morning at Princeton. If time exists contemplates time as a two way street. A misanthropic toast raises a glass to old Ebinezer Scrooge. Six sonnets bring vignettes of the Normandy invasion, four sonnets are vignettes of the battles in Alsace. Provence paints the sobering start of reconstruction, and Apre la guerre the harsh first winter after the war. Acropolis, the longest of the poems, is a dream sequence set in postwar Greece relating back to ancient Greece and Normandy. 1066 or dates are important and Greek roots are delightful learning poems for middle schoolers. Advice for Dr. Selling and The vermiform appendix of Dr. Henry Dixon needle two eminent physicians, and Chief Judge Herbert M. Schwab does the same for that Court of Appeals judge on his sixtieth birthday. Re House Bill 2648 is a poem submitted to the Oregon State Senate opposing enactment of that measure, surely a unique method of lobbying. Song of the Elderhostlers deals with pointy snails. Two sonnets and two thirteen line poems are moving memorials. The vivid portrait of Frederick Augustus Burnaby of the Horse Guards is described in a colorful descriptive eight stanza poem. The bargain by Octavian and Antony to settle their differences by the murder of their respective commanding generals is considered in a poem by the generals as the height of ingratitude. Of temples and the gods compares the Temple of Zeus with the Lincoln Memorial. A rat is a rat is a rat is a play on Gertrude Stein's poem. James the Just teases a federal judge. Reading Ulysses is a left handed compliment to James Joyce. A view from the Getty, considers the smog that obscures the view from that pinnacle of museum wealth. Christmas in the reign of error reflects on climate change. Three sonnets of Nurnberg deal with devastation, torture and the Rule of Law. The variety of subject matter adds to the enjoyment of these well written poems.

Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - Book Description 2000 Hollywood Diaries, is the true, intimate, and sometimes disturbing diaries of Morgana Welch. The diaries begin in 1971 and mark the beginning of a young girl's search for reality and sense of self in a section of society that was anything but normal, Hollywood and Beverly Hills. The diaries reflect a way of life that would afford Morgana the pleasure and pain of living in the world of rock and roll. Hollywood Diaries takes you inside the world of a 1970s groupie. In the days before cell phones, you-tube, and myspace when you had to be face to face (fantastically lusciously face to face.) with the center of the rock-and-roll vortex. Hollywood Diaries will take you on a vicarious journey paying homage to the world of rock and roll, for better and worse. Her recollections are not steeped in rose colored hues that are tempting when addressing the escapades of youth. While great care has been taken to assure that some of the players are not marred by their past behavior, the events and life portrayed is as it happened, without judgment, and without regret. 'You kept a very good diary. Everything in it is one hundred percent TRUE!!' - Chuck Ruff, Edgar Winter band. 'The stories you told in your book brought back fond memories for me of the crazy fun times we had'. Bill Lordan - Sly and the Family Stone, Robin Trower 'I saw that 'infamous groupie' photo in Stephen Davis's Hammer of the Gods and always wondered who the girls were. You are a fine writer and I enjoy your voice a lot. I love hearing about the groupie heyday and I really admire how you manage to come across in your writings, insightful and warm. Others have glossed over the seedier sides that must surely have been there. You handle them with a terrific approach, without overdoing it for shock value. Thanks for sharing your stories; it's great to finally know who the pretty blonde girl in the middle is!' - Kerstin Exemplary reflective storytelling, the hooks revolving around musicians we all know, the central inspiration in the end though is one of the human spirit, survival and honesty. The flow of consciousness with its celebrity thread is arabesque, organic and finessed. - Shorty I thought it was excellent. An honest snapshot of amazing times that will probably never happen again. Have also just read Laurel Canyon, which features some of Morgana's story as well. I agree with some other posts on this site.Morgana should write a detailed account of her life. Wild and magical.and surviving was nothing short of a miracle! - Tony McGraw.

Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - THE GATHERING SECRETLY SAVING THE WORLD PART ONE OF THE HEDGEHOG CHRONICLES by Z. G. STANDING BEAR HEDGEHOG The snail moves like a Hovercraft, held up by a Rubber cushion of itself, Sharing its secret With the hedgehog. The hedgehog Shares its secret with no one. We say, Hedgehog, come out Of yourself and we will love you. We mean no harm. We want Only to listen to what You have to say. We want Your answers to our questions. The hedgehog gives nothing Away, keeping itself to itself. We wonder what a hedgehog Has to hide, why it so distrusts. We forget the god Under this crown of thorns. We forget that never again Will a god trust in the world. by Paul Muldoon New Weather, 1973 Reprinted with permission. 67,000,000 SPRINGTIMES AGO (Give Or Take A Few) The blood-red sunset came crashing to a close. The youngsters all cringed as the ground shook, but their mother had a serene expression. 'Wow!' Little Petrov was impressed. 'Got 'im with the big horn!' Petrov's brother Vasily just looked up in awe. 'It's time you boys came with me to talk with your Grandfather,' said their mother, Lalo. 'You are getting old enough to hear what you must know for the rest of your life and the generations to come.' The boys were not that keen to sit down with their Grandfather, Bohuslava, the oldest and wisest of the entire Grootwhump. They were much more interested in the huge meat-eating dinosaur that had just come crashing down and blocked out the sunset. The teeth were huge, at least as long as the young hedgehogs were tall. There was blood all over. The scales were smooth and shiny. They'd never seen anything that big and fearsome so close up, a thing that would, millions of winters later, be called a tyrannosaur. The normally mild triceratops that beat him just seemed to get in a few good licks with his spiky head. 'Served the toothy one right,' both boys thought, since he had just eaten and went after the triceratops seemingly out of meanness. But Lalo insisted. 'Now is the best time.' The twins waddled behind their persistent Mom around the blood-soaked teeth of the now dead tyrannosaur. The triceratops that had somehow won the contest snarled at them as they trudged past, but they didn't worry about the big fellow. He had never bothered them before. The red sunset was again visible. Scurrying under protective rock ledges, the trio finally reached the small cave inlet of the Grootwhump Elder, Bohuslava. Lalo, in her usual quiet way, addressed the most senior hedgehog. 'My boys are entering being boys no longer. I ask you to tell them the secrets that will assure them long lives, for themselves and their children's children. 'Ah, yes, Lalo,' said Bohuslava in a soft, measured voice. 'But you must remember that I am getting very old and when I have myself traveled over the Bridge, you and your young men here must carry on.' 'Yes, I know. It's a big weight to carry. But we shall do it,' Lalo almost whispered. 'I'll leave the boys with you now.' Old Bohuslava liked Lalo's two boys, Petrov and Vasily. A bit mischievous but spirited in a good way. They will be good messengers for those to come, thought Bohuslava. The boys stood in front of their ancient elder respectfully, although both thought they'd much rather be playing outside and even exploring the giant dead tyrannosaur. 'Sit down, my young friends,' said Bohuslava softly, 'this is going to take some time.' The youngsters huddled together, resigned to their lesson, yet having no idea what to expect. 'Why is that great and powerful lizard lying out there dead ' questioned Bohuslava. The boys suddenly came alive, for each had his own opinion. 'Because he was greedy!' exclaimed Vasily. 'Thought he was too powerful,' added Petrov. 'You young fellows are going to be easy to teach,' said Bohuslava, 'you already show some wisdom.' 'Our Mom is a good teacher,' said Petrov. 'She really takes care of us, and pr.

Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - This book is about the Constitutional rights of illegitimate children and their parents, about the right to give birth and raise your own children regardless of race and marital status. It was inspired by Chrystal Chambers and her lawsuit against the Omaha Girls Club for pregnancy and race discrimination tried in l986.Ms. Chambers' case had a role in the passage of the l991 Civil Rights Act, Section 105 (a)(2)(a) banning the use of the business necessity defense in cases where intentional discrimination is alleged. It literally took an act of Congress to get the Omaha Girls Club to abandon their single pregnancy negative role modeling discharge policy. The case has been covered in 'The Loud Voice' of the national media. In June of 2003, Ms. Chambers and her case were featured by national black syndicated morning radio talk show host Tom Joyner Show in his segment 'Little Known Black Heroes.'In the winter of l986, the case was featured in the New York Times, in Newsweek, in The New York Daily News as well as locally. The case was also featured twice on National Public Radio's 'All Things Considered,' and Ms. Chambers and her lawyer Mary Kay Green and others were featured on Phil Donahue's national talk show. The book also covers the Magdalene asylums in Ireland for unwed mothers, and challenges the Constitutionality of the Welfare Reform Act.

Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - FIRST STAR I SEE TONIGHT is an intimate adventure with the sky and stars. This unique combination of prose, poetry, and art invites the reader to explore-in the company of an astronomer, poet, and artist-a night of wonder under the stars. The book can be thought of as an excursion into the earth's own shadow, from nightfall to dawn, including a liftoff into outer space and a perspective on the delights of our home planet. It is structured in seven chaptrs: \* TWILIGHT ZONE, a time when our perceptions shift and we become aware of a wider universe. \* MOONGLOW. Through all its phases, our little sister-planet, the moon, is a constant source of wonder. \* DEEP SKY. When the moon sets, the sky darkens and deepens, and countless new objects come into view. \* ORION AND FRIENDS. Constellations help us make friends with the stars. \* REACHING OUT. In our time we have truly begun to reach for the stars. \* THE HOME PLANET. From space, we look back on our earth and see, with more discerning eyes, its times, seasons, lights, shadows, and colors. \* GOOD NIGHT. Finally, even astronomers must go to bed. Bridging the gulf that so often separates the sciences from the arts and humanities, FIRST STAR I SEE TONIGHT shows how the astrophysicist's space and the poet/artist's sky can be understood and appreciated at one and the same time. It is written for young and old readers alike, but always for the young in heart. Author/poet Robert Eklund and illustrator/designer Virginia Hoge invite you to come along with them on a. Billion-year mission: Descrambling the wonder Outside and inside.

Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - There White, from a blooming artist to the artist as Renaissance woman, immerses in everything as the multi-multi-media girl on a vision-mission of word worlds. Her talents through her writing are a collective of colorful variations within her artistic roles as rock and roll singer, songwriter, writer, poet, philosopher, playwright, musician, actress, painter, sketch artist, cartoonist, comedienne, jewelry designer, tarotologist, massage therapist, bartender, psychic, astrologer, numerologist, master hypnotist, amongst other titles. There's background started with her birth in a quiet suburb of Illinois, with 'moving' adventures to Michigan, then back to Illinois, and a gentle sweep to a small suburb in Georgia, and the final uproot for her family escorted to Orange County California. While There was growing up, writing was always a thread, a way to communicating her findings of the making new of the known and unknown, and everything in between. Whether it was her genes that made her imagination extend beyond the normal, the travel from one side of the country to the other, or a natural street smart, fast talking visionary perspective, she emerged throughout her youth as a mix of alter-ego, with only occasional bursts as an opinionated rebel, writing and verbally documenting the more controversial, funny observations. Truly, her rebel yell, however, was curbed with the presence of the surrogate teddy bear, her piano and piano lessons. It wasn't until she was an adult, though when the relationship between There and music became a symbiotic driving force. And as if that weren't enough for her quick mind as a child, she also chose, on her own, to learn flute, and later, guitar. She did exceptionally well in the typical school bands, winning scholastic flute music contests. How could this have been achieved It may have been nights where her parents found her sleep-marching and sleep-fluting, rather than her usual sleepwalking and sleeptalking. While she had musical instruments, she also dove into television, film, books and metaphysics to fuel her music and writing dreams. Her numerous influences held live-in visitations into her cerebrum, which then led her to her into unique stories, rants and poetry. Her hero coliseum with whom she would consistently review, would be supplied with listening to the Doors, the Beatles, John Lennon, and Jimi Hendrix, to watching 'Monty Python,' 'South Park,' 'House,' '4400,' 'Dexter,' 'Burn Notice,' 'Six Feet Under,' 'Twilight Zone,' reading 'Stranger in a Strange Land,' 'The Psychology of Crowds,' 'Love's Body,' 'What Does Woman Want,' and expanding into other later works of Robert Heinlein, to books of Dr. Tim Leary, Alan Watts, Arthur Rimbaud, Aleister Crowley, and Aldus Huxley, to the study of poetry, enveloping into Jim Morrison's and Charles Bukowski's works. She took only one brief respite into memorizing terms in a Sanskrit dictionary with a coffee break of reading physics. She evolved after that juncture, into the dichotomy of sciences, but focused on philosophy and psychology, with her favorite icons, Friedrich Nietzsche and Carl Jung. In between breaths, she found a pragmatic addiction to studying a few subjects with an ' ology' and after months of devoted study returned to her poetry. In college, she studied poetry, music, acting and film, though first engulfed herself into sci-fi and fantasy movies, metaphysical, horror, drama, and honing in on movies like Bladerunner, Logan's Run, and Fifth Element. During this time, she had two friends who had attempted suicide. This was a heavy emotional experience for There, and her metaphysical curiosity amplified ten-fold when they related their near death experiences to her. Her immediate reaction was to pursue the exploration of NDE (near death experiences). Once she reached the summit of that, she moved into the study of hieroglyphics, voraciously researching this topic, as well as religion and culture, reading such thin.

Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - Underwood Families Of Caledonia, Ohio consists of many segments that are combined to form synergies that enhance the book. The Underwood account is part family history that includes pertinent biographical data, part genealogy that traces descendants, and part local history that provides information about the development of Caledonia and Ohio. It explores the ancestry and family histories of a specific group of people who migrated westward to a central Ohio hamlet in the eighteenth century and later. Individuals with an Underwood surname first appeared in New England in 1637 after they had sailed across the Atlantic Ocean from Old England. Around the same time, there were other Underwood migrations to the Delaware Bay area, and of principal interest is one group we call the Delaware Family-Caledonia Branch. This family group ultimately spread widely through Pennsylvania, Ohio, and the West.We begin this study with Samuel Underwood who appeared in the Delaware Bay area in the mid-seventeenth century. He is the seminal figure in our examination because beginning with him we have been able to establish a direct line of descendants. This genealogical journey is documented through a total of eight men; we conclude with Miller Harland Underwood (1865-1937) who spent his entire life in or near Caledonia, Ohio. We follow these people as they settle in Pennsylvania before moving westward in their Conestoga wagons to become early pioneers in the Ohio Country. Here they face the perils of disease and hostile Indians and overcome innumerable hardships while migrating into central Ohio. Some of them settle in an area that eventually becomes Caledonia, Ohio. While we focus upon the men composing the direct line, we follow their offspring as well as they spread west to the Pacific Ocean. To accomplish this task, we have organized this book into three parts. The first section consists of pertinent historical data that makes the movement of Underwood families into Ohio more meaningful and places these events within the context of the times. The second portion presents genealogical data, intermixed with family history, in a readable narrative that supports the line of succession of the 'Underwood eight' and follows many of their offspring. The last part is an appendix that is a full descendant-ordered National Genealogical Society (NGS) report covering up to 13 generations. It documents more than 2700 individuals, in excess of 800 marriages, and over 600 surnames. Also included is an index of these individuals. We expect our approach to Ohio history and Underwood genealogy will be useful to others as they consider their past and its import for their future. In any event, we trust the reader will find the journey offered by this book to be enjoyable, instructive, and rewarding. Book Excerpt The earliest immigrants to America were from England, but between 1749-1750 more than 30,000 Germans arrived in Pennsylvania. The long voyage across the Atlantic Ocean took two or three months. Gottlieb Mittelberger was a schoolteacher from Germany who, along with 500 of his fellow countrymen, sailed across the Atlantic aboard the Osgood and arrived in Philadelphia in late 1750. He writes of the perils of emigrating from Germany: The people are packed densely, like herrings so to say, in the large sea-vessels. One person receives a place of scarcely 2 feet width and 6 feet length in the bedstead, while many a ship carries four to six hundred souls . . . But during the voyage there is on board these ships terrible misery, stench, fumes, horror, vomiting, many kinds of sea-sickness, fever, dysentery, headache, heat, constipation, boils, scurvy, cancer, mouth rot, and the like, all of which come from old and sharply salted food and meat, also from very bad and foul water, so that many die miserably . . . That most of the people get sick is not surprising because . . . meals can hardly be eaten, on account of being so unclean. The water which is served out of th.

Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - Man gazes at the heavens and dreams of exploring the universe, hoping to discover other worlds as wondrous as our own. Are we alone in this vast universe Perhaps the answers we are seeking already exist here on Earth, waiting for us to unravel them. Did life begin uniquely here on Earth or was it enhanced by Beings from beyond, perhaps travelers from a distant star Jake removed the mysterious silver cloth from the chest, unfolding it carefully and placing it on the table. Without thinking, he removed the crystal skull from the chest and placed it on top of the silver cloth, a simple gesture that would change his and Bill's lives forever!Does the Mayan calendar, ending in the year 2012, signify the end of Earth or the return of the Arks and a new beginning CHAPTER ONEThe Adventure BeginsMexicoThe midday sun beats down without mercy for anything in its path as Jake reaches for the faded bandanna hanging from his back pocket. He removes his hat and wipes the sweat and dust from his face. Surveying the surrounding panorama, he glances back at the mountains and neighboring hills. Leaning over he pats Grey, his mule on the head, 'Well boy that's it,' he exclaims throwing his hands up in disgust, 'I've had it, I think it's time to call it quits, time to go home and regroup. There's sure no gold in this godforsaken part of Mexico,' he mumbles as he reaches over, takes hold of Grey's reins and turns him around to head for home. Suddenly the earth begins to tremble. It roils beneath his feet knocking him to the ground, rocks and dirt falling everywhere.'Run Grey, Run!' Jake screams grabbing Grey's reins again, this time holding on tighter for support. He stumbles to his feet and races for a clearing on the mesa ahead determined to hold his footing against the jolting earth with Grey right at his side. They make it to the mesa as the tremor stops abruptly, just as it had begun. Only the sound of dislodged rocks crashing against dry mesquite disturbs the air. Jake wraps his arms around Grey's neck and gives him a big squeeze, 'That was a close one boy, but we made it.' Breathless from the run Jake turns to look back up at the mountain. Behind the veil of dissipating dust, Jake spots the jagged jaws of a fresh cavern.'My God Grey, look at that,' he yells, pointing about half way up the mountain, as if Grey would actually look. 'That opening wasn't there before.' He shakes his head in disbelief, wipes the sweat from his brow again with the worn bandanna and considers his options.'Let's go see what we can find,' he says excitedly as he heads back up the mountain with Grey following close behind.'Wait Grey,' he shouts, stopping so fast Grey bumps into him, 'First I need to get an exact reading of where we are.' Pulling out his handy GPS, he jots down the information in his logbook. 'OK, boy let's start climbing, gotta see what's in that cave,' Grabbing Grey's reins loosely again they start scrambling back up the mountain.Glad to see most of the dust has settled, he approaches the cavern wondering how big the cave might actually be. He can feel the adrenaline pumping and the excitement growing with every step.As he enters the cave, he's amazed at how large it is. It looks more like a finished room or chamber, not like any cave he has ever explored. The walls appear to have been carved out of the rock by someone or something other than Mother Nature. They are extremely smooth and though the earthquake has just reopened the cave, the air inside is not stale or dank. As he looks around, he's shocked by what he sees. Sitting there in the middle of the cave is a strange but beautiful container, a box with hieroglyphics covering its entire surface. At first glance the box looks like its glowing but as he approaches it he realizes its the sunlight coming in through the front of the cave bouncing off the box giving the illusion of a glow. Jake's puzzled by the look of the box.'My God Gre.

Buch. Zustand: Neu.
