Softcover. Zustand: Near Fine. 1st Edition (softcover issue). [very slight edgewear to front cover, otherwise clean and as-new]. Trade PB "Memoirs of a life begun in a musical family in Los Angeles in the 1920s," by a harpist who "spent over 25 years as a harpist under contract to two major motion picture studios." She got her big break in the early 1940s, when a concert at which she was performing was attended by the great film composer Max Steiner; this led to her joining his staff at Warner Bros.; in 1949 she was hired as a full-time harpist at Paramount, and spent most of the rest of her career there. (There's some good anecdotal material about working with Cecil B. DeMille and Dean Martin & Jerry Lewis, among others, at Paramount.) "Along the way Aida describes the professionals in the film music business she encountered, and relates stories involving the history of Los Angeles and its connection to the music world at the time, as the city was a cultural cornucopia at the end of the Second World War." The last few chapters recount her battle against, and recovery from, breast cancer.

Hardcover. Zustand: vg. First edition. Quarto. 95, [1]pp. Original printed dust-jacket over grey paper covered boards with gold lettering on spine. Free front endpaper inscribed and signed by the author. As friend to many important American and European artists, Los Angeles collector and art benefactor Connie Lembark has been on the adventure of a lifetime. From swank art openings on New York's Upper East Side to the sunny beach studios of some of the hippest artists in southern California, Connie and her husband Danny were fans and admirers of many of the young artists energizing American art. Regulars at the Beverly Hills parties of Fred and Marcia Weisman in the 1960s and '70s, the Lembarks hobnobbed with most of the "light and space" and "finish fetish" crowd, the artists who came to print at Gemini G.E.L., and those who frequented the exploding L.A. art scene. Artists like Sam Francis, Frank Stella, George Rickey, and Ellsworth Kelly became deep and abiding friends. Trips to Europe cemented friendships with artists like Bernar Venet, while a late life stint in Nashville in the '90s brought them closer to artist William Wegman and trumpeter and artist Herb Alpert. Connie's vivid stories and memories reveal more than simply a life in artthey tell the story of a life spent with artists, the friendships and fun times that sustain and enliven our unparalleled contemporary art world (From the publisher). Very minor and sporadic creasing and tiny closed tears along dust-jacket edges. Dust jacket in overall good+, binding and interior in very good condition.
