One way or another, their women share the ride until the prison door shuts for too many years or an early grave opens. The public most often gets to see these women when they enter and exit courtrooms, or attend funerals when the gangster they share blood or a bed with is, one way or another, going down. Some Melbourne women, around the shifting cast of male characters that make up the town's gangland, have had to cope with crime in their midst, always have, and the crop of the late 1990s - early 2000s was a bumper. Many of the warrior women lived out their lives in public. They used media to express themselves, send messages to players, vent their passion, seek therapy, perform, and make wardrobe statements!Women featured include Roberta of Melbourne, the women of the organisation of H and rent-a-kill's Lady Macbeth.…

Soft cover. Zustand: Good. 1st Edition. Good condition. Minor wear to book corners and edges. Scratch to tail left corner of back cover. Interior and binding are still excellent. A dark secret lurked aboard HMAS Australia, the flagship of the Royal Australian Navy. In 1942, with a Japanese invasion looming, those aboard the ship were shocked and completely unprepared to deal with the brutal murder of a young sailor by two shipmates who were allegedly part of a homosexual group on the flagship. A swift military investigation and court-martial were conducted. The officers faced a difficult, almost impossible task. How were they to prove the guilt of sailors accused of murdering a shipmate without exposing the motive for the crime, which would unleash embarrassing propaganda onto the world for the enemy to exploit? This would prove to be one of the most controversial events in the history of the Royal Australian Navy and trigger unprecedented legal and political events.…

Soft cover. Zustand: Very Good. 1st Edition. Very good condition. Ex library copy with all external stickers removed. Faint mark on title page from sticky tape removal. Minor wear to book corners and edges. Body text and binding are still very good. Mutineers explores the use and abuse of power by our military and political leaders at a critical time in Australia's history, revealing how they missed an opportunity to take control of our national destiny. Five young sailors, including a decorated war hero, were ringleaders of the most controversial mutiny in the annals of the Royal Australian Navy in Fremantle Harbour on 1 June 1919. Severe gaol sentences handed out by a naval court-martial sparked a political furore several months before a Federal election. The two most senior naval officers in the RAN threatened to resign when the Hughes Government pressured the Admiralty in London to allow the sailors to be released early for Christmas. Three of the sailors went on to serve again in World War Two in the Middle East, Malaya and New Guinea. One became a prisoner of war of the Japanese in Changi, and another served with the US Small Boat Service. All but one lived long and happy lives.…
