Soft cover. Zustand: Fine. 1st Edition. Fine condition, with only the faintest touches of rubbing to the fragile handmade indigo paper wrappers and a few minor irregularities along the deckled edges?an inherent feature of its artisanal binding rather than a flaw. The text block is pristine: crisp, clean, and bright, printed on Mohawk 80 lb. Superfine with excellent inking and registration. The handmade paper jacket, crafted by Coco Gordon, retains its vivid cobalt hue and tactile surface texture, showing no loss of color or structure. The spine is uncreased, the signatures tight, and there are no marks, creases, or handling wear of note. A superb, carefully preserved example of this artistically produced small-press volume. Issued in 1985 as winner of the Water Mark Women Writers Award, "Travels of the Itinerant Freda Aharon" showcases Myra Sklarew's signature fusion of imagination, science, and feminist introspection through the continuing adventures of her alter-ego, Freda Aharon. The chapbook was typeset at The Writer's Center in Bethesda, Maryland, and designed by book artist Coco Gordon, who also produced the striking handmade indigo paper jacket. Printed on Mohawk Superfine stock, the volume represents a beautiful instance of American women's fine-press publishing in the 1980s?a tactile and conceptual collaboration between poet and bookmaker. The text's wry "Biographical Note," acknowledging Freda's Sisyphean pursuit of knowledge, embodies Sklarew's characteristic blend of humor and existential meditation. A scarce and aesthetically refined publication, notable both for its literary significance and its handcrafted production.
