URANTIA AUDIOS: Splits to top spine corners of case; clear tape around bottom half of spine, moderate soil to white covers. Some cassette plastic covers show a bit of soil. We've sampled a preponderance of tapes accross all trays and found the audio to be crystal clear, narrated by several people, men & women. Presentation copy from Ornette Coleman to A&M Records President Gil Friesen, inscribed on the front free endpaper: "3/14/77, To Gil, The No Name or Number. Ways of Reading. Ornette Coleman". Gil Friesen (1937-2012) "achieved success in films and television but was best known for helping to establish A&M Records as an artists' haven for an eclectic stable of performers that included Carole King, the Police, Barry White, and the Carpenters. Herb Alpert, the trumpeter and band leader who co-founded A&M Records with the music promoter Jerry Moss in 1962. hired Mr. Friesen as one of its first employees. (In the company name, "A" stood for Alpert and "M" for Moss. Mr. Friesen was known as the ampersand, Mr. Alpert said.) Named president in 1977, Mr. Friesen helped make A&M one of the largest independent record labels in the country" (New York Times obituary, 20 December 2012, retrieved 20.11.18). Coleman's album Dancing in Your Head was issued by Horizon/A&M in 1977, so this may have been presented on the occasion of the album's release. The Book of Urantia - "a collection of neo-Christian scriptural writings" (Hollinghaus p. 60) - was first published in 1955 and accrued a cult following, being reissued several times during the 60s and 70s; the present copy is of the fifth printing. It is known to have been consulted by both Jimi Hendrix and Karlheinz Stockhausen, the latter being "introduced to Urantia by a New York hippie in 1971. his admiration for the book led to several of its ideas being incorporated in Donnerstag [aus Licht, composed 1977-80]" (Joscelyn Godwin in van den Broek & Hanegraaff p. 350).
