Small propaganda leaflet printed on one side. Colour illustration shows Australian woman kissing an American GI. 13 x 18cm. Creased and staining visible mainly on the reverse, barely visible paper abrasion in one small place, "Jap Propaganda" handwritten upper right edge of image and on reverse "I don't think the Japs like us very well". Good copy. This is a Japanese propaganda leaflet which was dropped for Australian troops during the Pacific War around New Guinea. The illustration shows an American soldier kissing an Australian woman while dead bodies of Australian soldiers are piling up on the South Sea shore. The headline reads, "Hey! You diggers! He came, he saw, he conquered!". Text at the upper right reads: "Thinking you "diggers" will never come back alive the BLACKS and the YANKS are raping your wives, your daughters, your sweethearts -- they're helpless without your protection. Your future happiness is at stake! One less Aussie simply means one more Yank "safely" in the home. Surely you'll not give up your lives to make this possible" Copies of this leaflet were dropped by the Japanese on Guadalcanal and it seems likely other islands in the Solomon Islands group.

Fotografie
[Japan, Unknown Publisher, circa 1880s]. A leporello of 24 albumen paper photographs (each approximately 90 × 140 mm), mounted on both sides of card leaves bound in brocade-covered thick bevel-edged boards (120 × 180 mm). Brocade lightly worn at some corners; leaves slightly cockled; minor silverfish damage to the surface of the pastedowns and the two adjacent pages, affecting the top portion of the two photographs mounted on them; for the rest, the condition is excellent. The images include views of villages, towns and shrines, with occasional mountain scenes (Mount Fuji makes a cameo appearance). Only one image is captioned in the negative ('Temple at [illegible]'). We have handled hand-coloured examples of albums of this nature, and we have to say these uncoloured plates are much to be preferred.
