This work focuses on the US Army's disastrous campaign in the Philippines, 1941-2. The fate of the defenders was sealed when the Japanese crippled the US Pacific Fleet at Pearl Harbor on Dec 7, 1941 & destroyed US air assets in the Philippines a few hours later. This left the defenders of the islands isolated in the heart of a Japanes dominated Pacific with little chance of resupply or reinforcement. Very good. Cover has some sticker residue. A brief pamphlet published by the US Army Center of Military History, on the military campaign and operations by units of the US 5th Army and their battles in the Anzio bridgehead 1944. The operations were supported by the US XII Tactical Air Command, RAF Desert Air Force plus other Tactical Bomber and Coastal Units. The author is believed to be the same Dr. Laurie who is on the faculty at University of Maryland Baltimore County. From an on-line posting: "Dr. Laurie teaches military and intelligence history, and Western Civilization to and since 1700. He is currently a historian with the CIA History Staff, Center for the Study of Intelligence, and has served as a staff historian at the U.S. Army Center of Military History, as deputy and chief historian of the National Reconnaissance Office, and as a member of the history staff of the Office of the Director of National Intelligence.
