Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - A New Historical Notice on Martinésism and Martinism brings into English for the first time two essential documents of the Western esoteric tradition: the Nouvelle Notice Historique sur le Martinésisme et le Martinisme by Albéric Thomas (Un Chevalier de la Rose-Croissante), and Franz von Baader's essay on the doctrine of Martinès de Pasqually -- published here under Baader's own title, The Secret Teachings of Martinèz Pasqualis -- translated into French by René Philipon and here rendered into English from that translation. First published in Paris in December 1899 as No. 5 in the Second Series of the Bibliothèque Rosicrucienne -- the imprint of the Ordre Kabbalistique de la Rose-Croïx -- this volume appeared at the height of the French esoteric revival and amid vigorous controversy over the origins and nature of the tradition now known as Martinism. Its principal author, Alexandre-Albéric Thomas (Tau Marnès), was a bishop of the Gnostic Church, a Supérieur Inconnu of the Ordre Martiniste, active secretary of the Grande Loge Misraïmite, and secretary of the journal La Gnose. Working from primary archives never previously subjected to systematic scholarly scrutiny -- the Villaréal archives of the Ordre des Élus-Coëns, the records of the Philalèthes, and documents in private hands -- Thomas produced a work of meticulous historical scholarship that remains the foundational study of its subject. The Nouvelle Notice Historique traces the history of the Ordre des Élus-Coëns from its founding by Martinès de Pasqually in the 1760s through its dissolution in the upheavals of the French Revolution and the dispersal of its archives. It examines the relationships between Martinès's operative theurgical tradition and the parallel worlds of the Stricte-Observance templère, the Philalèthes, the Rectified Scottish Rite, and the Illuminés of Weishaupt. It documents the life and thought of Louis-Claude de Saint-Martin -- Martinès's most celebrated disciple -- and argues, on the basis of extensive documentary evidence, that Saint-Martin neither founded nor transmitted any formal Martinist order: the word Martinisme, Thomas demonstrates, was coined by the public and derives from a persistent confusion between Saint-Martin and his teacher. Throughout, Thomas engages in pointed critical dialogue with the historical claims of Papus (Gérard Encausse), whose synthetic but historically imprecise accounts he subjects to rigorous examination. Following the Notice, Baader's essay offers a philosophical and theosophical appreciation of Pasqually's doctrine of Reintegration, framing it within the Christo-theosophical tradition of Boehme and Eckhart. Together, the two texts -- the historical and the philosophical -- present the teaching of Martinès de Pasqually from complementary perspectives. The translation includes a substantial introduction tracing the French esoteric milieu of the fin de siècle: the careers of Papus, Thomas, Saint-Martin, Martinès de Pasqually, and von Baader; the polemic between Thomas and Papus; and the relationship of both to René Guénon, who co-founded the Ordre du Temple Rénové with Thomas in 1908 and was expelled from the Ordre Martiniste alongside him. All footnotes are translated in full. This volume will be indispensable to students of the Martinist tradition, members of Gnostic churches and esoteric orders, scholars of Western esotericism, and all who seek a rigorous historical account of one of the most significant initiatic currents of the modern West.

Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - Helena Arendt is a scholar without an institution. Expelled from the academy for pursuing a manuscript tradition her colleagues found inadvisable and her supervisors found alarming, she has spent three years working alone in the after-hours margins of a Boston library, assembling a grammar for something that predates every language she knows. When a package arrives at the reference desk - anonymous, addressed to her specifically, containing a reproduction she has never seen and a call number for a book she will have to find herself - the isolation ends. What follows takes her from Boston to Chicago to Frankfurt to the south of France, through rooms that have been waiting for her arrival and conversations with people who have known she was coming longer than she has. Her grandfather worked on the same material a generation before her. Whatever stopped him has been watching her since she began. The Buried Light is a novel about the kind of knowledge that institutions suppress not because it is false but because it is dangerous to the right people; about a woman who inherits a work she did not choose and chooses it anyway; about what it costs to complete what the dead could not finish, and what it is worth.

Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - Jean-Marie Ragon de Bettignies (1781-1862) - called by his contemporaries 'the most learned Freemason of the nineteenth century' - delivered his Philosophical and Interpretive Course on the Initiations, Ancient and Modern as a series of lectures before the Lodge of the Trinosophes in Paris in 1818-19, repeated at the lodge's request in 1838-39, and published in 1841 with the authorization of the Grand Orient of France. Now available in English for the first time, this landmark work presents Ragon's systematic interpretation of the degrees of Freemasonry in the light of the ancient mysteries, Pythagorean number-mysticism, and the solar-astronomical philosophy of the antique sages. Nine discourses conduct the reader from the symbolic degrees of Blue Masonry - Apprentice, Companion, Master - through the chapteral degrees of Red Masonry - the Elu, the Écossais, the Knight of the East, the Rose-Croix - and on to the philosophical degrees of the Scottish Rite, culminating in the Knight Kadosh, which Ragon presents as the crown and philosophical completion of the entire initiatic system. Along the way, the author provides comprehensive interpretations of each degree's symbols, words, and ritual actions; a vast excursus on Pythagorean numerology and its Masonic applications; detailed histories of the reformers of Masonry including Swedenborg, Martinès de Pasqually, and Weishaupt; a penetrating parallel between Masonic governance and the institutions of revolutionary France; and a frank and often ironic institutional critique of the Grand Orient and the uses - and abuses - to which Masonry was put by the successive political regimes of his era. Ragon occupies a singular position in the history of esoteric Masonry: the bridge between the documentary historians of the Napoleonic era and the great synthesizers of the fin de siècle - Éliphas Lévi, Papus, Oswald Wirth - who would draw on his systematic method while infusing it with the romantic esotericism of the occult revival. Situating Masonic symbolism within the universal tradition of solar religion, and insisting that its mysteries are grounded not in pious fable but in the philosophy of nature and the science of man, Ragon produced a work that remains indispensable to every serious student of initiation. This translation - by the translator of Ragon's Masonic Orthodoxy: Followed by Occult Masonry and Hermetic Initiation (Triad Press, 2023) - is complete and unabridged, including all footnotes and sub-notes, and is accompanied by a scholarly introduction placing the work in its biographical and historical context and a glossary of French rite terminology.

Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - First published in Paris in 1812, Claude-Antoine Thory's Annales Originis Magni Galliarum Orientis is the foundational history of the Grand Orient of France - and one of the rarest books in Masonic literature. Written by a librarian to the Mother Lodge of the Philosophic Scottish Rite with unparalleled access to the archives and documents of his age, it chronicles the schism of 1772 that produced the Grand Orient, the decades of rivalry and revolutionary turbulence that followed, and the hard-won consolidation that shaped French Freemasonry into the nineteenth century. But Thory's scope extends far beyond institutional history. The Annales surveys the full landscape of eighteenth-century esoteric Freemasonry: the Élus-Coëns of Martinès de Pasqually, the Illuminati of Weishaupt, the Egyptian Masonry of Cagliostro, the Philalèthes, the Modern Templars, the adoption lodges, the hermetic societies, and the initiation of Voltaire. Papal condemnations, royal edicts, statistical tables of lodges, and original documents appear alongside the narrative, making this as much a primary source collection as a history. History of the Foundation of the Grand Orient of France is the first English translation of this essential work.

Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - The Translator's Introduction provides thorough scholarly context: a biography of Fabré-Palaprat; an account of the Templar documents and the founding of the restored Order; a balanced treatment of the authenticity debate surrounding the Larmenius Charter; an analysis of the Levitikon's theological program and episcopal succession; a survey of the esoteric milieu of post-Revolutionary France; and a detailed account of the divergence of Fabré-Palaprat's legacy into neo-Templar and neo-Gnostic streams - tracing the Johannite succession through Jean Bricaud and the Église Gnostique Universelle to contemporary Gnostic churches, and the Templar lineage through the OSMTJ and OSMTH to the numerous neo-Templar orders active today. This edition will be an indispensable resource for scholars of nineteenth-century French religious history, Gnosticism, Martinism, esoteric Freemasonry, and the independent sacramental movement, as well as for practitioners within Johannite, Gnostic, and neo-Templar traditions for whom the Levitikon is not merely an historical curiosity but the charter of a living spiritual inheritance.
