They established the Chun Wah Chinese Arts Studio and have been Chairman and Honorary Director of the Ontario Chinese Artists' Association for many years. Jeffrey Lo studied painting under the renowned bird-and-flower painter Zhang Shaoshi (Cheung Shiu-shek, 191491). He favours the "boneless" method in painting flowers, employing the light and colour techniques of the Geshan School of Ju Chao (181165) and Ju Lian (18281904). Esther Tam studied different painting genres with masters including Li Fenggong (18831967), Liang Boyu (Leung Pak-yu, 190378), He Shuhui (Ho Shuk-wai, b. 1919) and Tang Hong (b. 1926). She practices in the style of the Song dynasty painting academy, using detailed brushwork and the realistic depiction of birds and flowers. They are particularly skilled in painting peonies.

Hardcover. Zustand: Fine. 255 pp., illustrations. In English and Chinese. This catalogue illustrates the achievements to date of the Chinese realist oil painter, Xu Yanzhou. Xu was the youngest oil painter to publish a monograph of his art work in China, and had a solo exhibition at the China Art Gallery. The topics of Xu's paintings are diverse, ranging from realistic rural paintings, captivating female portraits, imaginative paintings which are close to science fiction and large scale paintings of animals. He incorporates modern ideas into his work, questioning life and society. The changes in Xu's art, his choice of topics and styles, follow changes in his own experiences. Through complex compositions and use of colour, Xu expresses his conceptual and even surrealist thinking, and his belief in xieyi to be the ultimate beauty in art.

The Silk Road was the result of political and military endeavour. Begun during the Han dynasty to combat the Huns, it was also important during the Tang dynasty (618-907) in opposing the Turks. The Ningxia section of the route had particular strategic significance because of its proximity to the political and economic centre of Chang'an, thus control over the area was hotly contested between the Han Chinese and non-Chinese ethnic minorities. Relics found along the Silk Road include Indian Buddhist sculptures, Persian-Sassanian motifs and images of the whirling dervish dance of Samarkand. Buddhist painting by Cao Zhongda, a Sogdian from Kabudhan (Gubdan), north of the Zerafshan River, of the Northern Qi dynasty (550-577), are characterized by the depiction of pleated garments that drape the body closely, as if the figure were emerging from water. This "Cao Style" greatly influenced Chinese Buddhist art." excerpt from the foreword by YEUNG Chun-rong, Director, University Museum and Art Gallery, The University of Hong Kong, 11 November 2008.

Hardcover. Zustand: Fine. No Jacket. 1st Edition. Chinese and English text.; Hardcover (without dust jacket - as issued).; 23.5 x 31 cm; 1.6 kg; 231 pages with colour illustrations throughout.; Used with signs of wear on the exterior. Interior as new.; Catalogue from the exhibition co-presented by the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Museum and the University Museum and Art Gallery of the University of Hong Kong from 15 February to 13 of May 2007.; "The exhibition is so rich in content that it provides a survey of cultural exchange between China and the West via the Silk Road since the Tang dynasty. In ancient times, there were several branches of the Silk Road extending over the continents of Europe and Asia, representing almost one-third of the total area of the world. Of all routes, that of the northern steppe, which originated in the westward migration of the northern Xiongnu tribe is the oldest. Cultural exchange between China and the West increased rapidly during the Tang dynasty, and was unprecedentedly active during the Yuan dynasty, when Genghis Khan and his descendants followed the steppe route through Western Asia and Europe. During the development of the ancient steppe regions in northern China, its inhabitants did not only follow the silk routes to liaise with the West, but also developed frequent contacts with the central plains of China. Therefore, the northern steppe regions influenced the central plains culture, and that of the West, while also absorbing influences from both these regions. The cultural relics displayed in this exhibitions are the products of this long process of multicultural exchange. This exhibition will feature eighty extraordinary relics dating to the Turkic period (552 - 745), the Qidan period (916 - 1125) and the Yuan dynasty (1271 - 1368), to show the unique features of the steppe culture. Many of the relics are formal expressions of the integration of the material cultures of the steppes, and that of the West. This is and exhibition organized exclusively to demonstrate the unique characteristics of nomadic civilization." excerpt from the foreword by Liu Zhaohe, the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region (Deputy Director, Hall of Culture and Director, Bureau of Cultural Relics).

Hardcover. Zustand: Fine. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Fine. 287 pp., illustrations. In English and Chinese. This is the catalogue of the exhibition, "The Multiplicity of Simplicity: Monochrome wares from the Song to the Yuan dynasties", held by the University Museum and Art Gallery, HKU. The Song dynasty (960-1279) saw a breakthrough in Chinese ceramics production. It was during this time that a number of famous kilns were established in different parts of China. The products from each kiln demonstrated a style of their own. Some of their innovative traditions were passed on to the Yuan dynasty (1271-1368). Sponsored by the University of Hong Kong Museum Society and the Songde Tang, this exhibition features 118 pieces of ceramic wares from the University Museum collection as well as eight collections in Hong Kong. They are representative works produced by the well-known kilns in Hebei, Henan, Shaanxi, Zhejiang, Fujian and Jiangxi provinces. All show rich variations of white, blue, green and black glaze colours. Evidently, the monochromes made from the Song to the Yuan dynasties are the result of a highly sophisticated ceramic technology. Most of the exhibits are displayed to the public for the first time. They are fully illustrated in this exhibition catalogue.
