Hardcover. Zustand: Fine. Duodecimo size, 394 pp. In 1916, the "Great War" was still raging in Europe; here in the States, while its impacts were felt to a degree, life centered more on discovering a country which was feeling its strength and beauty. "Motoring" was a thing to do - we have yet to discover who the lightening conductor in question is, but s/he sets off in a motor car, nicely depicted on the front board, to take a tour through New England and New York, a map of which is depicted on the endpapers. A lovely example of a decorated publisher's binding; alas, we cannot find the signature of the binding designer or firm. ___DESCRIPTION: Publisher's decorated trade binding in white, light green, dark green, and rust on full blue cloth, white lettering on the front and spine, pictorial endpapers, tissue-guarded full-colour frontispiece, illustrated title page, fifteen black-and-white photographic reproductions throughout the text; duodecimo size (7 5/8" by 5 1/8"), pagination: [i-vi] vii-viii, [1-2] 3-385, [386 - printer's statement]. ___CONDITION: Fine overall; with clean boards, the colours on the front board seep, bright and unrubbed, straight corners, a strong, square text block with solid hinges, the interior is clean and bright, and entirely free of prior owner markings; some very slight rubbing to the head and tail of the spine and to the corners, else fine. ___POSTAGE: International customers, please note that additional postage may apply as the standard does not always cover costs; please contact us for details. ___Swan's Fine Books is pleased to be a member of the ABAA, ILAB, and IOBA and we stand behind every book we sell. Please contact us with any questions you may have, we are here to help.
