The Bernard Tauchnitz copyright edition of this eight volume set in quarter calf bindings. Three works by William Makepeace Thackeray (1811-1863), an English novelist and illustrator best known for his satirical works. These works were published by Tauchnitz as part of the series 'Collection of British Authors'. The Leipzig publisher Bernhard Tauchnitz (1816-1895) was one of the most important international publishers of the 19th and 20th centuries. He published new titles in English, within a short time of their issue in the UK and US, in markets outside of the UK.This collection comprises: The complete three volumes of Vanity Fair (1848), Thackeray's highly successful satirical novel following the lives of Becky Sharp and Amelia Sedley amid their friends and families during and after the Napoleonic Wars. The complete three volumes of Pendennis (1849), following the exploits of the hero Arthur Pendennis as finds his place in society. Volumes I and IV of The Newcomes (1854), which tells the story of Colonel Thomas Newcome. This work is narrated by Arthur Pendennis and mentions some of the characters in Vanity Fair. In quarter calf bindings. Externally sound, though spines are slightly faded. Losses to the marbled paper to the boards of Vanity Fair Vols I and III, Pendennis Vols I and III, and The Newcomes Vol IV. Lacking title spine label to Vanity Fair Vol II and The Newcomes Vol I, with a small loss to the volume spine label to The Newcomes Vol I. Staining to the leather of Vanity Fair Vols I and III, Pendennis Vols I and III, and the Newcomes Vols I and IV. Cracking to the rear joint of Vanity Fair Vol I, causing the backstrip to lift slightly. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright with the odd spot. Tidemarks to the fore edge of Vanity Fair Vol I, affecting the occasional page, and to the first and last couple of pages to Vanity Fair Vol III, Pendennis Vol I and The Newcomes Vol IV, and to several of the pages to Pendennis Vol III.
