Hardcover. Zustand: As New. Special Limited Edition. Special Limited Edition of only 180 copies printed thus, this being #84. Composed in Monotype Baskerville, and printed letterpress on T.H. Saunders mould-made paper. Handsomely bound in a nearly square, oatmeal cloth-covered format, with beautiful burgundy leather label to spine, gilt lettered. Hand-made paper construction, and a tipped-in black-and-white portrait of James Simmons, Master Paper Maker of Haslemere 1831 - 1868, at frontis. Selections edited and annotated by the two editors, multiple appendices of the Simmons pedigree, the chronology of paper mills, and then the construction of the diaries. Foreword by W.J.D. Cooper, and with scholarly apparatus in the form of, e.g., notes, index, and bibliography. This work comprises a fascinating account of the business affairs of a struggling country papermaker in England during the years 1831-1868.
