Text is clean and free of marks. Binding tight and solid. Suburbia was one of the most popular and successful American photobooks of the 1970s. Bill Owens photographed his neighborhood in a California town, letting the photographed characters do the talking. In fact, he reported in the form of captions the short sentences uttered by his subjects, who managed to express a lot in just a few words: ''We are very happy. Our children are healthy, we eat good food and we have a really welcoming home." Born as a personal project carried out while Owens was working for a local Californian newspaper and taking a course in visual anthropology, this photobook perfectly demonstrates that text and images work much better for sociological documentaries than images alone. ; 0.55 x 10.24 x 10.16 Inches; Signed by Author.

Zustand: Very good plus. First printing. First edition of this early, important, and extensive dictionary of gay slang. While 1964's LAVENDER LEXICON and the following year's THE GUILD DICTIONARY OF HOMOSEXUAL TERMS both precede Rodger's influential THE QUEENS' VERNACULAR, they were little more than short pamphlets. As Rodgers himself outlines in his introduction: "Previously gay slang has been explored only in slight, dated glossaries or in booklets, not much more than glossaries themselves." Rodger's guide, however, is both properly scholarly and firmly grounded in lexicographic practice - with pronunciation guides, usage examples, and more 12,000 terms and definitions. QUEENS' VERNACULAR not only remains an important resource, but one of the most extensive as well: "the magnificent, still unsurpassed Mother of all gay glossaries [that made] all previous attempts to document gay slang look like shopping lists scribbled on the back of a paper bag" (Kulick 251). 8'' x 4.5''. Pictorial wrappers. Zustand: Very Good +. The 1973 revised edition, in its pictorial wrappers, of this uncommon and very important travel guide aimed at the African-American community. Solid and VG+ in its pictorial wrappers, with mild darkening along the spine. Octavo, published by the ever-interesting Straight Arrow Books of San Francisco.

Original wraps. Zustand: Near Fine. First Edition. A clean, well-preserved example of this very uncommon early issue, issue #5, with 2 rows of Jim Morrison photos (taken by Baron Wolman) serving as bookends on the front cover. Evenly folded for shipping purposes but, happily, no shipping label. A bright, crisp copy, legitimately approaching Near Fine. The front cover boasts articles titled: "Pigpen to Meet Pope?", "Beatles Zap USA Ltd", "Monterey Film Bummer" and "Doors Up for Movie". (The first 10 issues of Rolling Stone, all published within the first half-year of the magazine's November 9th, 1967 debut, are notoriously scarce, especially in such sharp condition).

First Edition. Oblong quarto, original photographic stiff paper wrappers. Inscribed by Bill Owens on the front free endpaper, "For Dave Bill Owens Can you avoid Suburbia." In very goodÂcondition.
