J. H. F. Remme, World Health Organisation, 1993. 'If it is true that science is not limited by frontiers and all research Institutions then belong to mankind, so it is natural for each Institution to be responsible for the problems of those who live in the geographic area under its influence. There are no specific aspects concerning physical, chemical or philosophical concepts and facts, but specificity does exist concerning geology, sociology and pathology. It is the duty of each Institution to study the particular aspects concerning its geographic region, as missing links of the chain of universal knowledge may be found there.' H. Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - Fiber-to-the-Home Technologies is fundamentally based on all the variable factors of development and advancement of the promising technology of FTTH, which is or going to be the key broadband telecom access technique to the end users. The optical technological issues cover from network architectures to component development and integration, including analysis of the transported signals and survey of the FTTH projects and the standards, with the aim to obtain a broad analysis of all technical elements and concepts involved in near future deployment. FTTH is the key true broadband telecom access technique to the end-users. It is lately gaining a practical high interest as enabling technological limitations are being solved, in a cost-effective way. While access network deployment based on fiber is becoming comparable in cost to competing technologies (and even cheaper in some scenarios), the great difference on performances and future-proof technology, makes today the fiber an attractive choice. The increasing interest for new broadband IP services like bi-directional video communications between individuals will be only efficiently supported in its full quality by the optical media. The text represents a prospect of future in access networks. Considering their direct impact in both the end-users and operators or service-providers, we consider it can bring a new era, generating new perspectives and jobs. Fiber-to-the-Home Technologies tries to make people know about the existence and incredible perspectives of Fiber-to-the-Home. As a conclusion, the presented techno-economical advances in all-optical access networks in this text, both in research and commercial levels, reveal that Fiber-To-The-Home can feasibly progress from the research stage to the massive commercial field in a hopefully short-term period. Even today, the analysis leads the fiber to be considered as the right medium choice in new accessnetwork deployment for new operators.

The WG8.1 '02 Conference is held in the beautiful Kanazawa area in North western Japan. The ubiquitous Web has revolutionised the way organisations communicate and work internally as well as externally and, consequently, the nature of information systems supporting business activities. Web-based systems have become the state of the art in information systems engineering in a very short time. As companies become more international in their strategies and activities, information systems themselves span the globe, led by the Internet. While the risks from failed systems may be enhanced due to higher expectations and increased complexity, we have the opportunity to learn more about the nature of information systems and to develop new engineering techniques and methods to improve the development of information services in a World Wide Web context. The aim theme of this working conference is 'Engineering Information Systems in the Internet Context' and the programme address both technologies and methodologies for building them. x The call for the EISIC Conference was given international audience. The program committee was chosen from very well reputed researchers in the international information systems, web information systems and communication communities. Seventeen papers have been selected for presentation and discussion during the conference.

Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - As the frequency of communication systems increases and the dimensions of transistors are reduced, more and more stringent performance requirements are placed on analog circuits. This is a trend that is bound to continue for the foreseeable future and while it does, understanding performance trade-offs will constitute a vital part of the analog design process. It is the insight and intuition obtained from a fundamental understanding of performance conflicts and trade-offs, that ultimately provides the designer with the basic tools necessary for effective and creative analog design. Trade-offs in Analog Circuit Design , which is devoted to the understanding of trade-offs in analog design, is quite unique in that it draws together fundamental material from, and identifies interrelationships within, a number of key analog circuits. The book covers ten subject areas: Design methodology, Technology, General Performance, Filters, Switched Circuits, Oscillators, Data Converters, Transceivers, Neural Processing, and Analog CAD. Within these subject areas it deals with a wide diversity of trade-offs ranging from frequency-dynamic range and power, gain-bandwidth, speed-dynamic range and phase noise, to tradeoffs in design for manufacture and IC layout. The book has by far transcended its original scope and has become both a designer's companion as well as a graduate textbook. An important feature of this book is that it promotes an intuitive approach to understanding analog circuits by explaining fundamental relationships and, in many cases, providing practical illustrative examples to demonstrate the inherent basic interrelationships and trade-offs. Trade-offs in Analog Circuit Design draws together 34 contributions from some of the world's most eminent analog circuits-and-systems designers to provide, for the first time, a comprehensive text devoted to a very important and timely approach to analog circuit design.
