Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - We arehappy to welcome you to the IFIP Protocols for High-Speed Networks '96 workshop hosted by INRIA Sophia Antipolis. This is the fifth event in a series initiated in Zurich in 1989 followed by Palo Alto (1990), Stockholm (1993), and Vancouver (1994). This workshop provides an international forum for the exchange of information on protocols for high-speed networks. The workshop focus on problems related to the e:fficient transmission of multimedia application data using high-speed networks and internetworks. Protocol for High-Speed Networks is a 'working conference'. That explains we have privileged high quality papers describing on-going research and novel ideas. The number of selected papers was kept low in order to leave room for discussion on each paper. Together with the technical sessions, working sessions were organized on hot topics. We would like to thank all the authors for their interest. We also thank the Program Committee members for the Ievel of effort in the reviewingprocess and in the workshop technical program organization. We finally thank INRIA and DRET for their financial support to the organization of the workshop.…

Neuware - Bringing the eastern European economies in transition (defined more precisely in the Introduction) under the economic, political, and secu rity umbrella of the European Union (ED) has been an ambition of many of these countries from the very start of the so-called annus mirabilis in 1989. The road to gratification of this aspiration since then has been rather bumpy, however one wants to look at recent events. Indeed, since 1989 the relationship between the EU and the economies in transition has been ebbing and flowing with the evolution of two main strands of policy stances in the EU. One has been deep skepticism about bringing these countries into the Union at all in any foreseeable future. This in spite of the fact that, after long hesitation, in mid 1993 the EU Member States committed themselves eventually to explore accession with selected transition economies, as well as Cyprus and Malta. The other has been their evolving attitude toward their own integration endeavors. Hence the dilemmas, in the EU's parlance, of the 'deepening versus widening' conundrum. That indeed constitutes the paramount issue addressed in the present investigation.…

Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - It is an honour and a pleasure to welcome you all at this 20th annual International Symposium on Blood Transfusion in the Netherlands. This year you celebrate its 20th anniversary and I congratulate the Staff of the Blood Bank Noord Nederland and especially Dr. Smit Sibinga for this great achievement. As most of you know, the name of the person of Dr. Smit Sibinga is unbreakably con nected with the annual symposium in Groningen which he has organized each year from the very start, 20 years ago. The reputation of any symposium depends heavily on the quality of the lectures. I think it is not possible to organize 20 symposia in a row if the topics lack actual relevance and the speakers are not of excellent reputation. Dr. Smit Sibinga has proven to have a keen eye for selecting interesting themes and eminent speakers. Although a lot of different topics have been dealt with in the past 20 years, which each attracted the attention of a different group in the field of blood transfusion, it is not surprising that after a tradition of 20 years several speakers but also a lot of attendees are not for the first time in Groningen to participate in this event. It gives the symposium a unique atmosphere of intimacy. It is not hard to admit that most of the newer developments in transfusion medicine take place outside the Netherlands.…

It was motivated by a desire to make the technology accessible to those who most needed it or could most use it. It is meant to be a self-contained introduction, a reference for the techniques, and a guide to the literature for the underlying theory. It contains pointers to fertile areas for future research. It also serves as introductory documentation for a Fortran 90 software package for nonlinear systems and global optimization. The subject of the monograph is deterministic, automatically verified or r- orous methods. In such methods, directed rounding and computational fix- point theory are combined with exhaustive search (branch and bound) te- niques. Completion of such an algorithm with a list of solutions constitutes a rigorous mathematical proof that all of the solutions within the original search region are within the output list. The monograph is appropriate as an introduction to research and technology in the area, as a desk reference, or as a graduate-level course reference. Kno- edge of calculus, linear algebra, and elementary numerical analysis is assumed.…
