Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - 'Daprima importa sappere di che cosa si tratta.' ('The rst thing is to know what the talk is about'.) Attributed to Vilfredo Pareto. This book results from my continuous and deep interest in multiple criteria decision making (MCDM). Eleven years ago I wrote in my p- vious monograph: 'This work results from my interest in the eld of vector optimization. I stumbled rst upon this subject in 1982 [ . ]. I was attracted then by a gap between vector optimization used to serve as a formal model for multiple objective decision problems and the - cision problems themselves, the gap nonexistent in scalar optimization. Roughly speaking, vector optimization provides methods for ranking - cisions according to a partial order whereas decision making requires a linear ordering of decisions.' This declaration is still valid and nothing needs to be changed. To be more speci c, this book is a fruit of my dissatisfaction with the current state-of-the-art of MCDM. MCDM is a branch of science, whose declared ultimate goal is to provide practical tools. However, we cannot say, and this is regrettable, that all present MCDM methods and algorithms are in popular use by those who make complex decisions and for that purpose are in need of methodological or computational support.

While optics and electronics should be used appropriately for transmission and switching hardware, note that 'intelligence'' in any network comes from 'software,'' for network control, management, signaling, traffic engineering, network planning, etc.The role of software in creating powerful network architectures for optical WDM networks is emphasized.Optical WDM Networks is a textbook for graduate level courses. Its focus is on the networking aspects of optical networking, but it also includes coverage of physical layers in optical networks. The author introduces WDM and its enabling technologies and discusses WDM local, access, metro, and long-haul network architectures. Each chapter is self-contained, has problems at the end of each chapter, and the material is organized for self study as well as classroom use. The material is the most recent and timely in capturing the state-of-the-art in the fast-moving field of optical WDM networking.

Neuware - Achieving sustainable agricultural development is at the forefront of the poverty reduction objective of the Central Asian republics - Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. Since independence, the countries of the Central Asian region have undergone a series of transition from centrally planned economies to a more market oriented system. Wide-ranging policy reforms have been implemented, although in varying degrees, in the five Central Asian countries. Despite great efforts by the countries and the external advice and efforts of international agencies to help them to follow a dynamic growth path, the progress in policy reforms has been frustratingly slow. Generating momentum to reorient the approach and the sequencing of policy reform packages will require rethinking of the policy reform process. This is particularly so in the food, agriculture, and natural resource sectors. This further requires improved understanding among the policymakers, donors, and international agencies of the impact of policy alternatives so that policy reforms and the speed with which they have been implemented are consistent with the objectives and the social and political realities of individual countries in the region. Involving the local policy research community in identifying critical issues and challenges, setting priorities among them for food and agricultural and natural resource policy research and analysis, and implementing joint research studies is the best way to generate knowledge on the impact of policy reforms and to increase ownership of policy design and implementation.
