Graphics recognition is a particular eld in the domain of document ana- sis that combines pattern recognition and image processing techniques for the analysis of any kind of graphical information in documents, either from paper or electronic formats. Topics of interest for the graphics recognition community are: vectorization; symbol recognition; analysis of graphic documents with - agrammatic notation like electrical diagrams, architectural plans, engineering drawings, musical scores, maps, etc. ; graphics-based information retrieval; p- formance evaluation in graphics recognition; and systems for graphics recog- tion. Providing a public speaker bureau usually makes sense. It provides an easy and relatively inexpensive way to impart useful information to your constituents or the public, or serve as a marketing or fundraising tool. A public speaker bureau can increase your visibility in the communities that you serve or would like to serve. Throughout our score of years of experience in the health and human services fields, we were struck by the lack of attention given tomost organ izations' public speaker bureaus. Again, while most organizations felt the need to have a speakers bureau, relatively little attention was given to the management and evaluation of this service. In fact, few organizations spent quality time determining whether or not a public speaker bureau was, indeed, needed and, if so, what should be its strategic purpose in serving the mission of the organization.

Arguments for an epidemiological reporting system are presented, while the last chapter discusses means to integrate the various components of a response system via a software tool.

This text, intended for readers with some prior knowledge of condensed-matter physics, emphasizes the basic physics behind such spontaneous structural changes in crystals. Starting with the relevant thermodynamic principles, the book discusses the nature of order variables and their collective motion in a crystal lattice; in a structural phase transition a singularity in such a collective mode is responsible for the lattice instability, as revealed by soft phonons. This mechanism is analogous to the interplay of a charge-density wave and a periodically deformed lattice in low-dimensional conductors. The text also describes experimental methods for modulated crystal structures and gives examples of structural changes in representative systems. The book is divided into two parts. The first, theoretical, part includes such topics as: the Landau theory of phase transitions; statistics, correlations and the mean-field approximation; pseudospins and their collective modes; soft lattice modes and pseudospin condensates; lattice imperfections and their role in the phase transitions of real crystals. The second part discusses experimental studies of modulated crystals using x-ray diffraction, neutron inelastic scattering, light scattering, dielectric measurements, and magnetic resonance spectroscopy.
