Neuware - It is a pleasure to offer you this book containing papers about ICT and education from the World Computer Congress 2006 (WCC 2006), held in Santiago, Chile and sponsored by the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP). A lot of people worked very hard to make this event happen and to produce this book. The programme committee with IFIP members from around the world issued a call for papers inspiring almost 80 people to submit papers, posters, demonstrations, and workshops to the IFIP TC3 (Technical Committee on Education) sub-conference of WCC 2006. The submitted papers were reviewed by a large group of referees to select the papers to be presented at the conference. What is really amazing is that all these people freely contributed their time and effort to do all this work. The TC3 sub-conference of WCC 2006 has two themes: Informatics Curricula, TEaching Methods and best practice (ICTEM II), and Teaching and Learning with ICT: Theory, Policy and Practice. These themes represent many of the broad range of interests of the Working Groups of IFIP TC3. Two kinds of papers are included in this book: full papers and short papers. Full papers are standard papers that are appropriate for an international conference on ICT and informatics education. Of the 64 full paper submissions, 28 (44%) were accepted. A short paper represents work in progress, opinion, a proposal, work with untested results, or an experience report.

It is shown that in order to achieve high speed and high accuracy at high power efficiency, calibration is required. Calibration reduces the overall power consumption by using the available digital processing capability to relax the demands on critical power hungry analog components. Several calibration techniques are analyzed. The calibration techniques presented in this book are applicable to other analog-to-digital systems, such as those applied in integrated receivers. Further refinements will allow using analog components with less accuracy, which will then be compensated by digital signal processing. The presented methods allow implementing this without introducing a speed or power penalty.

Neuware - In the early to mid-1990's while working at what was then Motorola Se- conductor, business changes forced my multi-hundred dollar microprocessor to become a tens-of-dollars embedded core. I ran into first hand the problem of trying to deliver what used to be a whole chip with something on the order of over 400 interconnect signals to a design team that was going to stuff it into a package with less than 220 signal pins and surround it with other logic. I also ran into the problem of delivering microprocessor specification verifi- tion - a microprocessor is not just about the functions and instructions included with the instruction set, but also the MIPs rating at some given f- quency. I faced two dilemmas: one, I could not deliver functional vectors without significant development of off-core logic to deal with the reduced chip I/O map (and everybody's I/O map was going to be a little different); and two, the JTAG (1149. 1) boundary scan ring that was around my core when it was a chip was going to be woefully inadequate since it did not support - speed signal application and capture and independent use separate from my core. I considered the problem at length and came up with my own solution that was predominantly a separate non-JTAG scan test wrapper that supported at-speed application of launch-capture cycles using the system clock. But my problems weren't over at that point either.

Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - The thesis of this book is that there are one set of equations that can define any trip between an origin and destination. The idea originally came from work that I did when applying the hydrodynamic analogy to study congested traffic flows in 1981. However, I was disappointed to find out that much of the mathematical work had already been done decades earlier. When I looked for a new application, I realised that shopping centre demand could be like a longitudinal wave, governed by centre opening and closing times. Further, a solution to the differential equation was the gravity model and this suggested that time was somehow part of distance decay. This was published in 1985 and represented a different approach to spatial interaction modelling. The next step was to translate the abstract theory into something that could be tested empirically. To this end, I am grateful to my Ph. D supervisor, Professor Barry Garner who taught me that it is not sufficient just to have a theoretical model. This book is an outcome of this on-going quest to look at how the evolution of the model performs against real world data. This is a far more difficult process than numerical simulations, but the results have been more valuable to policy formulation, and closer to what I think is spatial science. The testing and application of the model required the compilation of shopping centre surveys and an Internet data set.

Il risultato inevitabile di tutto questo è che gli interventi di supporto per la terza età possono essere scorretti, così come l'impiego delle risorse umane e finanziare ad essa destinate. I vincoli economici sempre più stretti da un lato e il progressivo allargamento della popolazione anziana dall'altro rendono ormai ineludibile l'affermarsi di una vera e propria 'cultura geriatrica' non solo in campo diagnostico radiologico ma anche in tutte le altre discipline specialistiche. Quest'opera vuole andare in questa direzione.
