Neuware -The formative ideas for this symposium originated in 1978 at the IAU Symposium No. 83 on 'Mass Loss and Evolution of O-type Stars' held at Qualicum Beach, Vancouver Island, Canada - WR stars generally figure prominently in O-star meetings and vice versa! Following general appro val by the IAU Executive Committee the initial ideas were cemented at a subsequent meeting, IAU Colloquium No. 59 on 'The Effects of Mass Loss on Stellar Evolution', held at Miramare, Trieste, Italy in 1980, which was attended by the ma,jority of the present Scientific Organising Committee and at which meeting the outline programme for this symposium was formulated. 1981 was considered an appropriate year in which to hold a meeting on WR stars, since the last IAU Symposium devoted to this stellar class had been held a decade earlier, in Buenos Aires (IAU Sym posium No. 49), and during this intervening period a wealth of new observational material had been obtained for WR stars together with significant advances on the theoretical front. The venue for this sym posium was chosen from the requirement, which can be inferred from the above, that a meeting on 'hot' stars take place in an appropriate, sunny climate and followed upon the excellent suggestion of Dr. C. Neuware - Most of the research incorporated in this monograph was initially undertaken as part of the author's Ph.D. dissertation submitted to the School of Urban and Public Affairs, Carnegie-Mellon University. The research was funded through a Doctoral Dissertation Grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The dissertation was a winning entry in the 1979-80 Ph.D. Disser tation Competition of the North American Regional Science Association, funded through a grant from the Economic Development Agency of the U.S. Depart ment of Commerce. Revisions and extensions of the initial research were con ducted at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. I would like to thank in particular Chang-I Hua for his guidance and direc tion in reviewing this research. In addition, I would like to acknowledge the useful comments provided by Robert Avery, Shelby Stewman, Tong Hun Lee, Swarnjit Arora, and Charles Manski regarding the substance and econometric approaches used in the research. Neuware -Edmund Husserl published in his lifetime only works which represent a compilation of individual phenomenological analyses or which have the character of an introduction to his phenomenology. It always made him uneasy that he did not publish any systematic work in phenomenology. In his later years, from the beginning of the 1920s, he tried several times to write such a work, but in vain. The masterplan for this work, which his assistant Eugen Fink sketched out in 1930/31 is preserved. According to this plan, the Phänomenologie der Instinkte has attracted very little attention in Husserl studies until now, takes a central and fundamental position in the whole system of his mature transcendental phenomenology. In this book, Nam-In Lee reconstructs the Phänomenologie der Instinkte on the basis of the already published works and, above all, of the unpublished manuscripts of Husserl. Moreover, he draws out the consequences which the Phänomenologie der Instinkte bears for the whole system of phenomenology. Transcendental phenomenology, in its form of a genetic phenomenology of which the Phänomenologie der Instinkte is the concluding part, can, according to him, no longer be considered as one-sided philosophy of consciousness in the traditional sense, as it has often been thought of hitherto. One is primarily descriptive, concentrating as it does on useful phenomenological approaches toward the most economical classifications of large classes of experimental data on particular phenomena. The other, whose thrust is explanatory, has as its aim the formulation of those underlying hypotheses and their mathematical representations that are capable of furnishing, via deductive analysis, predictions - constituting the particulars of universals (the asserted laws)- about the phenomena under consideration. The two principal disciplines of contemporary theoretical physics - quantum theory and the theory of relativity - fall basically into these respective categories. General Relativity and Matter represents a bold attempt by its author to formulate, in as transparent and complete a way as possible, a fundamental theory of matter rooted in the theory of relativity - where the latter is viewed as providing an explanatory level of understanding for probing the fundamental nature ofmatter indomainsranging all the way fromfermis and lessto light years and more. We hasten to add that this assertion is not meant to imply that the author pretends with his theory to encompass all ofphysics or even a tiny part of the complete objective understanding of our accessible universe. Neuware -The results of a NATO Advanced Study Institute (ASI) entitled 'Coordination Chemistry Environments in Iron-Containing Proteins and Enzymes - Including Smaller Molecules and Model Systems' are summarized in this book. The ASI was held in the Province of Alberta, Canada, from August 23 to September 4, 1981. The first half of the conference was held on the campus of the University of Alberta, Edmonton, and the second half at the Overlander Lodge, Hinton. Two other conferences had the greatest impact upon the planning for this ASI. One was a NATO ASI held in Tomar, Portugal in September of 1979, entitled 'Metal Ions in Biology'. Among the organizers for that conference were Allen Hill and Antonio Xavier; we are happy to acknowledge their beneficial influence on our subsequent conference. The other most influential conference was one organized by Ralph Wilkins and Dennis Darnell entitled 'Methods for Determining Metal Ion Environments in Proteins' which was held in Las Cruces, New Mexico, U.S.A., January 10-12, 1979. The Las Cruces conference invited lectures were published as Volume 2 of 'Advances in Inorganic Biochemistry', G. Eichhorn and L. Neuware -This volume is a collection of the lectures presented at the NATO Advanced Study Institute 'Interfacial Aspects of Phase Trans formations', held in Erice (Sicily) in 198t.The Institute was the seventh course of the International School of Crystallography, es tablished in the Center of Scientific Culture 'Ettore Majorana' in 1974, with the guidance and inspiration of L. Riva di Sanseverino and A. Zichichi. The course organizers, R. Kern and myself, were advised and helped in developing the program, and in the choice of lecturers and participants, by R.F. Sekerka, F. Bedarida, J.L. Katz and J. G. Dash. Although the scope of the Institute (as reflected in the content of this book) might appear too wide, we believe that it responds to a real necessity. Both Surface Science and Crystal Growth (in cluding problems of nucleation, thin films, recrystallization etc.) have developed to an unusual extent during the last few decades. Neuware -Die Idee eines selbständigen Bandes von 'Pfander-Studien' entstand nach dem Internationalen Kongreß 'Die Münchener Phänomenologie', der an läßlich des hundertsten Geburtstags von Alexander Pfander in München stattfand. Ursprünglich war geplant, die im zweiten Teil des Kongresses im Rahmen einer Arbeitstagung über 'Das Werk und die Bedeutung Alexander pfänders' gehaltenen Referate, die bereits vervielfältigt waren, nebst Diskussionsberichten in den vorgesehenen Gesamtband über die Konferenz für die Serie Phaenomenologica einzuschlie ßen. Als sich herausstellte, daß der dort verfügbare Raum -für die meisten Beiträge zu knapp bemessen war und nur die abgekürz ten Texte ohne Diskussion hätten aufgenommen werden' können, tauchte die Idee eines gesonderten Bandes auf. Sie führte alsbald zur Erwägung neuer Beiträge und sonstiger Hilfen für das Ver ständnis des alten und neuen Werkes Pfänders. Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - The Second USA-USSR Symposium on Fna~e 06 Compo~~e Mat~a Pds. h took place at Lehigh University, Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, during 9-12 March, 1981. This bilateral program between the U. S. and Soviet Union was organized by Professor George C. Sih of the Institute of Fracture and Solid Mechanics at Lehigh Uni versity and Dr. Vitauts P. Tamuzs of the Institute of Polymer Mechanics of the Academy of Sciences of the Latvian SSR in Riga. The First Symposium was held in 1978 at Jurmala near the coast of Riga Bay. The primary reasons for initiating this series of Symposia were to dissemi nate present knowledge, to promote interchange of ideas, and to stimulate addi tional studies on the development of composite materials between the U. S. and USSR. Both countries have a vested interest in developing the capability to assess and utilize the attractive mechanical properties of composites so that they can be tailor-made to meet specific design requirements. Despite the in creasing number of published papers and articles, there is no communication more effective than on a person-to-person basis. It is with this objective in mind that a small group of engineers and scientists from the U. S. and USSR have planned to meet every two years to report recent progress on composite material research. The size of this group is approximately sixty (60) participants. The presentation involves about forty (40) technical papers which are published in volume.

Die Vertiefung des Fachgebiets bis zu zahlreichen Subspezialitäten hat das nichtärztliche Klinikpersonal zum Mitarbeiter mit gehobener Verantwortung heranwachsen lassen. Dazu sind nun aber fachliche Kenntnisse erforderlich, welche während der üblichen Berufsausbildung nicht oder nur teilweise vermittelt werden. Nachbehandlung angebracht ist.
