The main topics which I have addressed are portfolio problems with stochastic interest rates and portfolio problems with defaultable assets. The starting point for my research was the paper 'A stochastic control ap proach to portfolio problems with stochastic interest rates' (jointly with Ralf Korn), in which we solved portfolio problems given a Vasicek term structure of the short rate. Having considered the Vasicek model, it was obvious that I should analyze portfolio problems where the interest rate dynamics are gov erned by other common short rate models. The relevant results are presented in Chapter 2. The second main issue concerns portfolio problems with default able assets modeled in a firm value framework. Since the assets of a firm then correspond to contingent claims on firm value, I searched for a way to easily deal with such claims in portfolio problems. For this reason, I developed the elasticity approach to portfolio optimization which is presented in Chapter 3. The second invited talk was by Ivan Damg ard who presented ¿Paradigms for Multiparty Computation. ¿ The traditional rump session with short informal talks on recent results was chaired by Arjen Lenstra. The reviewing process was a challenging task, and many good submissions had to be rejected. Each paper was reviewed independently by at least three members of the program committee, and papers co-authored by a member of the program committee were reviewed by at least six (other) members. The individual reviewing phase was followed by profound and sometimes lively d- cussions about the papers, which contributed a lot to the quality of the nal selection. To this end, various modern techniques from scattered data modelling, such as splines over triangulations and radial basis functions, are combined with customized adaptive strategies, which are developed individually in this work. The resulting multiresolution methods include thinning algorithms, multi levelapproximation schemes, and meshfree discretizations for transport equa tions. The utility of the proposed computational methods is supported by their wide range of applications, such as image compression, hierarchical sur face visualization, and multiscale flow simulation. Third, we allowed authors to respond to the reviews consolidated in a discussion involving the area chair and the reviewers. Our aim was to provide the authors with maximal feedback and to let the program committee members know how authors reacted to their reviews and how their reviews were or were not re ected in the nal decision.
