Neuware - The present volume in a series of books produced from European Business Eth ics Network (EBEN) conferences in Europe, is a compilation of plenary speeches and papers presented at the 1993 EBEN conference in Oslo, Norway. The theme of this year's conference was 'The Use of Consultancy: Ethical Demands and Require ments' and there was a special focus on Eastern Europe. Of over 40 papers present ed at the conference from 165 participants representing 23 countries, we present here 20 selected by the editors as providing an overview of the latest thinking from both academicians and practitioners on the subject of ethics in consulting. Due to strict constraints on space in this volume, several valuable papers presented at the conference must be published elsewhere. We have also tried to maintain the unique flavor of the papers by authors whose mother tongue is not English. The consulting profession is booming in Europe, both in the West and in the for mer Communist Bloc countries. However, it has not previously been subjected to rigorous scrutiny from the ethical point of view. The conference planning commit tee thus sought to put the spotlight on the spreading phenomenon of buying and selling consultancy services within the European Union, within Europe and with the new Eastern Europe. The conference addressed several ethical challenges facing either the buyers or providers of consultancy services in both the private and public sectors.

Neuware - This book contains a collection of papers dealing with various aspects of the biology and aquaculture of the large branchiopod crustacea; the Anostraca, Conchostraca, and Notostraca. Included are many of the papers presented at the Second International Large Branchiopod Symposium convened in Ulm, Germany, 30 July--3 August 1993. Additional manuscripts contributed by colleagues who were unable to attend are also included. A special feature of this volume is a checklist of the Anostraca, including information on distribution, location of type material, taxonomic problems, and literature references.

During the ensuing years, s- eral monographs and various symposia on the subject have appeared. The present volume of Neuromethods, Voltammetric Methods in Brain Systems, can be considered different from previous offerings in several respects. The methodology of in vivo electrochemistry has now reached a stable level of maturity. It is no longer necessary to convince interested re- ers that the techniques can measure, with specified degrees of reliability, certain neurotransmitters and metabolites in the extracellular fluid space. Moreover, the basic approaches of electroanalytical measurements are more widely appre- ated by neuroscientists and one need not explain in tutorial fashion the details of oxidative electrochemistry. Nevert- less, in keeping with the nature of the Neurumethods series, this is a how to volume and readers will find ample detail on the preparation of electrodes, practical experimental details, and the interpretation of results. But the emphasis is strongly on the application of voltammetric methods. The first two chapters deal with fundamentals inherent in employing in vivo electrochemical measures. The first - ticle offers an authoritative account of our understanding of the surface states of carbon and carbon fiber electrodes. It provides a rationale for the various pretreatments that have allowed the tuning of electrode properties to obtain sen- tivity and fast response times.
