Hardcover. Zustand: Near Fine. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Near Fine dj. Illustrated by (dj design) Brad Foltz (illustrator). First Edition. [nice tight clean copy, appears unread, a couple of extremely light dents in top edges of covers; jacket shows only some very minor wrinkling at top of rear panel]. (B&W photographs) Memoir by the Heisman Trophy-winning running back who went on to become an NFL star for the Green Bay Packers, under legendary coach Vince Lombardi. However, his off-the-field partying, girl-chasing and gambling eventually caught up with him, and at the height of his career he was caught up in a gambling scandal and suspended from the NFL for a year. (This was a very big deal, I seem to remember -- I was ten years old at the time -- although in the context of the peccadilloes of some of today's top athletes, Hornung's transgressions seem kind of quaint. At any rate, he owned up to his misconduct, was reinstated -- reportedly thanks to heavy lobbying by Lombardi -- and went on to play three more seasons for the Packers.) 0-7432-6619-6.

Hardcover. Zustand: Near Fine. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Near Fine. First Edition. No signatures. Dust-jacket protected in archival mylar cover.; First printing. xxi, [1], 246, [1], [3 (blank)] pages. Grey papered boards with red spine, silver lettering on spine. Page dimensions: 235 x 131mm. "For decades, Hunter S. Thompson has galvanized American journalism with his acerbic wit, radical ideas, and gonzo tactics. He continues his reign as "The Unabomber of contemporary letters" ("Time") with "Hey Rube." Fear, greed, and action abound in this hilarious, thought-provoking compilation as Thompson doles out searing indictments and uproarious rants while providing brilliant commentary on politics, sex, and sports -- at times all in the same column.Filled with critics' favorites, as well as never before published columns, "Hey Rube" follows Thompson through the beginning of the new century, revealing his queasiness over the 2000 election ("rigged and fixed from the start"); his take on professional sports (to improve Major League Baseball "eliminate the pitcher"); and his myriad controversial opinions and brutally honest observations on issues plaguing America - including the Bush administration and the inequities within the American judicial system. "Hey Rube" gives us a look at the gonzo journalist in his most organic form - unbridled, astute, and irreverent.".
