Della terra egli coglie i segni, la materia, i solchi, tuttavia trovando in essi corrispondenze con i corpi dell'uomo, perché la terra, nella sua poetica, è la carne stessa dell'uomo. Nel complesso la sua opera è caratterizzata dalla ricchezza di rimandi interni e di sviluppi che la rendono inconfondibile, nelle parti come nell'insieme. Così la serie del paesaggio è profondamente legata a un altro importante capitolo della sua opera: 'Motivo suggerito dal taglio dell'albero'. Entrambe queste ricerche sono le più dimostrative del suo modo di procedere e di costruire. In questa serie di scatti, in particolare, partendo dai piccoli dettagli della natura, che veicolano in sé un respiro umano, come un alchimista dello sguardo Giacomelli trasforma l'immagine in un 'doppio visivo'.
