First edition hardcover, half-bound in dark brown leather, with green pebbled boards (with an added leather spine--from approximately thirty years ago, and a square from the original binding--of title--affixed to the new leather spine), with original book sewn-bound, is in VERY GOOD condition, having what looks like ancient staining to bottom area of front cover; a few spots of staining midway up front cover and on right edge; some light scuffing/rubbing to back cover; a small area of missing leather at top of first endpaper section with slight damage to top endpaper at top hinge; light foxing to closed page edges; very light handling wear to pages; normal age-toning to pages. Illustrated with more than 100 b&w illustrated plates, including 14 portraits, 18 views, 5 written facsimiles, and about 200 coats-of-arms. With text written by the elder Bormann (in German), plus the original old English of Shakespeare, and other contemporary writings. Apparently the elder Bormann, an Upper Saxon German dialect poet, was an advocate of the Shakespeare-Francis Bacon theory of authorship, and attempts to prove this with his text. Shakespeare. Von Popper was a Court Jew to the Habsburgs in Bohemia. Illustrated with 12 b/w reproductions of photographs. Heavy chipping and tearing on wrappers, crudely repaired with tape. Title-page missing. Text in German. Wraps in poor, interior in overall good condition. Scarce.

226 x 150 mm. pp. [viii], 124. Illustrated with 130 (in fact 131) images mostly showing tatting patterns. Text in German. Original grey/brown paper over boards, spine in brown leather. Upper cover lettered in black and white with tatting illustration attached. Some slight scuffing to lower cover and bumping to foot of spine but overall a very good copy, internally near fine. Tatting seems to involve knotting together pieces of thread to make allegedly eye-like patterns which, together produce moderately pretty but completely useless items of decoration. Indulging in this as a hobby is, it would seem, an example of "demonstrative idleness". Apparently it is popular again. This is a nice copy of a book on an unfathomable subject.

Reproductions in photogravure show building exteriors of the company's various branches. 2) Kupferstichproduktionen von Alt - Strasbourg. B/w photographic reproductions depict Strasbourg in various copper-engravings. Hansen & Neuerburg was a German company dealing in the distribution of coal. Text in German. Sporadic foxing to margin of plates. Overall good+ condition.
