The first edition [published here in facsimile] was originally published in 1885 (London: J. & A. Churchill). It went through eleven editions from 1885 through 1950. "In its primary intention this work appeals rather to the instructed anatomist than to the beginner. Its aim is to put into his hands a concise but complete account of all the methods of preparation that have been recommended as useful for the purposes of Microscopic Anatomy, and so furnish him with a ready source of information on points of detail." House is in its original slipcase, cloth-covered and illustrated. The slipcase is a little rubbed and marked, unevenly faded. J B Dancer (1812-1887) is often credited with inventing microphotographic slides, which use a camera and a reversed microscope to reduce the size of an image. In fact he may not have been the first but he was certainly the master.
