The work contains a preface in which Fawkes thanks the help he has received from his peers including Zachary Pearce, John Jortin, and Samuel Johnson. Burnaby furnished the Essay. Francis Fawkes [ 1721 - 1777 ] English poet & translator, who was, in the latter role, considered by his contemporaries to be the best since Alexander Pope. His translations are still selected for modern anthologies to this day, such is their merit. 500 grams.

A printed booklet, approx. 13 x 6cm. when folded, opening out and with a folding plate with 12 photographic views of London, the folding plate approx. 41 x 7 cm., back of folding plate blank, printer's details to foot of plate; minor rubbing else in very good condition. This souvenir of London was printed by Edward Thomas West Dennis, better known as a manufacturer of postcards. Based in Scarborough initially, and then moving to London, Dennis used a change in Post Office regulations to produce the first privately printed postcards, starting in 1894. He died in 1923, but the business, continued by his sons, was in existence until 2000.
