The first edition in the publisher's original cloth binding. 32 plates. Collated complete. A copy of the 1948 Thomas Vicary Lecture given by Sir Geoffrey Keynes to the Royal College of Surgeons of England, concerning the portraits of William Harvey (1578-1657). Harvey was a physician who made influential contributions in anatomy and physiology, and was once physician to King James I. This volume contains a catalogue and reproductions of the portraits. Sir Geoffrey Keynes (1887-1982), surgeon, medical and literary biographer, and bibliographer, later wrote the most complete and definitive biography of Harvey (1966, reissued with corrections, 1978). In publisher's original cloth binding. Externally smart, with some sunning to the spine and faint marks to the front board. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean except for the odd spot to the fore edge. Very Good. book.

Well's Bradshaw lecture, delivered in October 1966 and reprinted the following year from the annals of the Royal College of Surgeons. Signed by the author. Charles C. Wells was vice-president of the Royal College of Surgeons, and in this work he discusses the jejunum and ileum (the middle and end parts of the small intestine), and their uses as a urinary conduit, a urinary reservoir, and as a substitute for valvular mechanisms. Author's presentation copy. Ink inscription to title page reads 'To Tom, Like whom there is none other' followed by author's signature and date June 1967. In blue cloth binding.
