Soft Cover. Zustand: Good. Text in English. 210 pp. Few pages have markings. Four Approaches to Counselling and Psychotherapy provides an essential introduction to and overview of the main therapeutic approaches used in psychotherapy and counselling today. Written clearly and concisely, it will have international appeal as an ideal introductory text for all those embarking on psychotherapy and counselling courses. The authors trace the development of counselling and psychotherapy, and examine the relationship between the two. They then consider the four main models of psychotherapy: psychodynamic, humanistic, integrative/eclectic and cognitive-behavioural, before focusing on the most popular approach from each, including person-centred, rational emotive behavioural, and multimodal. A smartly bound set of Knight's illustrated edition. Distinguished for its textual accuracy, excellent biographical preface, and wealth of wood-engravings, the edition was an "extraordinary achievement" on the part of its editor (Young, p. 30). Charles Knight (1791-1873) was already a Shakespeare lover and bibliophile in his teens, when he owned an imperfect First Folio which he made up by printing the missing pages from a facsimile edition. "His first major project as an author took shape in 1837, when he resolved to produce a pictorial edition of Shakespeare's works. He started searching for 'authentic' visual materials and began a critical reading of the texts" (ODNB). This set is accompanied by 5 leaves on Ashby Shakespeare Society-headed paper, dated from 1881-1884, and inscribed by various secretaries to one Vice President Charrington, likely Francis Charrington (1858-1921), who was local to Ashby-de-la-Zouch at the time. The leaves and another small note record what plays were rehearsed at the society's meetings, and what roles Charrington would play. The Pictorial Edition was originally published by Charles Knight, its play volumes bearing undated title pages. Routledge issued the edition subsequently in the 1860s; the present set combines Knight and Routledge imprints. 8 vols, quarto (242 x 165 mm). Illustrated titles pages and over 1,000 wood-engravings. Contemporary green half morocco for Sotheran's, spines lettered in gilt, gilt and blind rolls to spines, green cloth sides, marbled endpapers, edges gilt. Head of one spine frayed, sides a little rubbed, the odd spot to contents. A very good set.…
