Paperback. Zustand: Very Good. A journey to the primordial language at the source of all dreaming, art & mythmaking. In 1945, on a hill overlooking the Nile, a Gnostic text was accidentally unearthed after having been buried for seventeen hundred years. Within its aged pages there appeared the mysterious fragment: enter through the image. Taking this as his starting point, the noted Visionary artist L. Caruana guides his reader through a labyrinth of imagery, exposing the forgotten image-language at the root of all dreaming, art and mythmaking. Drawing examples from a diversity of ancient cultures (Buddhism, Alchemy, Gnosticism) and from contemporary Visionary art (Dali, Fuchs, Johfra), many beautiful and intriguing symbols are illuminated with crystal clarity. Retracing the steps of 20th century mythmakers (Hesse, Kazantzakis) and scholars (Jung, Campbell, Eliade), Caruana opens our eyes to the ancient mythic patterns underlying our lives. As many fascinating dreams are offered and decyphered (Baudelaire, Descartes), a new key is given to us for the elucidation of dreams. By the end of this richly-illustrated study, we come to see how our own daily experiences are, in fact, heroic adventures culminating in rare moments of epiphany. We discover that our own lives are nothing less than .a gradual unfolding of the Sacred.…

In den WarenkorbHardcover. Zustand: Near Fine. First edition. Octavo. 160pp. Red cloth with printed paper labels. A bit of light nicking and wear on the spine label else near fine. A volume of strange and fantastical verse, awash in demons, mermaids, dragons, pirates, stillborn babies, dark caverns, death, Armageddon, "Red Harvests" (about bloody wars), et al. Published by the same press that issued *The Shunned House* by H.P. Lovecraft, who was a friend of Goodenough and visited him in Vermont in 1927 and 1928. In fact, Lovecraft described one of his visits in an issue of *Driftwind* and also modeled one of his more famous stories, "The Whisperer in Darkness" on Goodenough's house in West Brattleboro. In den WarenkorbFirst Edition. First edition of Wandrei's first book, limited to 322 copies, issued by the same publisher who attempted to publish Lovecraft's ill-fated The Shunned House. 8vo, pp. 40; original purple cloth, printed paper label on upper cover, fine and bright, without the glassine jacket. This is one of a group of remainders - as I remember, about 15 - handled by myself and Peter Stern nearly 40 years ago. In den WarenkorbZustand: Near Fine. Forged edition. 59 pp. Bound in publisher's quarter red morocco over red cloth with spine lettered in gilt; presumably to be confused with the specially bound copy that Robert Barlow presented to Lovecraft in 1935. Near Fine with light rubbing to cloth, front hinge starting and minor toning to contents. Copy of William A. Strutz, noted bibliophile and collector, with his bookplate on front pastedown; he purchased it from The Times Bookshop in London. A well-known mid-1960s forgery of the first edition of the famous horror author's first book. The novelette about a bewitched house was initially supposed to be published in The Recluse, a journal published by Paul W. Cook. The Shunned House was not included in the journal, though, which only ever printed one issue. Cook instead printed 300 sets of sheets of the story to be issued as a small book, though these sheets were never bound and the story never published. The Shunned House wasn't officially published until 1961 when August Derleth bound 100 sets of sheets at Arkham House; this edition is purporting to be of that group of copies. Meets all forgery points including the watermark of the paper reading "Chantry," and the Arkham House copyright label pasted on the copyright page, not over Cook's original copyright, but over a blank area. The text is offset-printed instead of the letter press printing of the genuine Recluse Press sheets. A rare Lovecraft imprint with a complicated printing history, sought-after even in this dubious form. Joshi 5.…

In den WarenkorbZustand: Very Good. First Edition. First edition. A nice presenation copy signed by Frank Belknap Long and inscribed to small press publisher Gerry de la Ree on the front free endpaper, "For Gerry, With the cordial regards of Frank Belknap Long." Bound in publisher's blue cloth, front and rear panels ruled in blind, printed paper label affixed to front panel; Limited to 350 copies. Very Good with mottling, toning and soiling to covers, wear to title label. Rubbing to ends and corners. Light toning and trivial foxing to contents. A defective copy that is missing the three preliminary leaves as well as one leaf of text (pages 23-24). Long did not notice the missing text leaf, but he copied the preliminary leaves by hand and pasted them into this copy. On a preliminary presentation leaf he has written: "I have copied by hand three missing / pages of the present volume -- the first / and only edition of the now exceedingly / rare A MAN FROM GENOA. None of these /pages were numbered, and there were / some blank pages -- hence the first poem, / A Knight of La Mancha, appears on page 7. / The text is now complete. / Frank Belknap Long / New York ----- August, 1970." A fantastic association copy of Long's first book and the first book printed by The Recluse Press. Signed.…

In den Warenkorb58 pp. 1 vols. 8vo. 1st Edition. First edition of the Author's First Book of fiction, printed but not published during his lifetime. 58 pp. 1 vols. 8vo. A key work in American science fiction and in the career of H. P. Lovecraft (1890-1937). Three hundred copies were printed by Lovecraft's friend Paul Cook, but the book was not published. It is reported that Barlow bound fewer than ten copies circa 1935/36, one in full leather for Lovecraft, and others for private circulation among members of Lovecraft's circle, with his own copyright notice. Unbound sets of the sheets were also distributed. After Barlow's death, August Derleth gained control of the remaining copies in 1952, about 150 sets, and sold unbound sheets until the early 1960s, when 100 copies were were bound uniformly. This copy has the Arkham cancel copyright slip listing dates through 1947 (Currey state A with titles in bold) and is in a simple binding in drab card cover with three staples, so it is an early set of sheets from Derleth's distribution. With a loosely inserted autograph of H.P. Lovecraft: an envelope, postmarked 17 December 1932 and addressed to R.H. Barlow, Esq., in the hand of H.P. Lovecraft, with his signature and return address, 10 Barnes St., Providence, R.I., in his minute hand on the back flap. A choice Lovecraft item. Bleiler, The Guide to Supernatural Fiction 1037; Joshi I-A-5; Currey, p. 325, C1a; Jaffery 62; Wessells 22 Drab card covers, stab stapled.
