Index of the verses of the Bhagavadgita. The Bhagavadgita is a rare literary classic whose ideas and philosophy have continued to inspire great thinkers leaders and the common man for over three millennia. It epitomizes the revolutionary teachings of Krishna the greatest teacher of Hinduism and the harbinger of a new era. The original Bhagavadgita consisted of twelve chapters which in the course of a millennium rose to eighteen. Thus a considerable part of the present Bhagavadgita consists of additions and interpolations. In this book for the very first time the renowned Indologist and eminent Sanskrit scholar Dr. P.L. Bhargava brings to us the Bhagavadgita as it was in its original form. After a painstaking and critical study of the present form of the Bhagavadgita Dr. Bhargava presents clear evidence of the inconsistencies between the added and interpolated parts and the part which must have been the original Bhagavadgita. Invaluable for scholars and laymen alike Bhagavadgita As It Was is a tribute to the great hero Krishna whose teachings are brought in an undiluted form in this book. 130 pp.…

The availability of new material is one and the change in people's liking is the other. People are no more interested in monarchy and it's elite, but, want to know more about common - poor men as how they lived, worked and earned livelihood? For rewriting history it is most essential that more and more new themes are explored and they are investigated through extensive and critical use of sources. "The book Studies in Mughal Economy covering the period from Akbar down to 1726 A.D. has been set with a similar aim. The themes, it has chapter wise taken up, relate to: (i) urban producers; (ii) agrarian experiments of Akbar, (iii) types of villages in Mughal empire and agrarian relations prevailing in them; (iv) peasantry continued to be a neglected class; (v) Surat customhouse instrumental to import and export trade; (vi) merchants share in agricultural surplus; (vii) rural-urban economic links; (viii) ghasdana - the fodder money collected by the Marathas; (ix) the indigenous merchants failed to form trading corporations and (x) role of Mulla Muhammad Ali, the merchant prince of Surat." Zustand: As New. Contents: 1. Tribalness, interaction and acculturation. 2. Ancient culture of the Bhils. 3. Interaction with non-tribals in the pre-colonial era. 4. Acceleration of the process of interaction in the colonial period. 5. An overview. Bibliography. Index. "The Bhils, one of the largest tribal community in India, are at present facing an 'identity crisis' more or less similar to that experienced by several other tribals of the country. Hence, great caution is needed for formulating policies towards their assimilation in the main stream of our national life. For this purpose a study of their ancient culture and their interaction with their neighbours since the historic period till the end of the colonial area, which is the main theme of the present study, appears to me a fruitful exercise. "The study of based on original records of the Government of India and erstwhile princely states of the region inhabited by the Bhils. Along with these unpublished sources published reports, books and journals have been also utilised. " (jacket) No. 22597 115 pp.…

Hardcover. Zustand: New. "Travels in Western India" was Col. James Tod's second work which was published in 1839 after his sudden and premature death in 1835. The two volumes of his "Annals and Antiquities of Rajasthan" published in 1829 and 1832 were "received with considerable favour" in Europe while these works immortalised his name in Indian historiography. Tod wrote his work at a time which saw the beginning of Indian archaeology and historical researches. It was therefore natural that his "Travels", though invaluable in as much as it portrays the culture and society not yet influenced by the west "and still steeped in medieval traditions and atmosphere of by-gone decades" was bound to have many errors. There was also need to identify various sites and persons mentioned by Col. Tod. Late Maharaj Kumar Dr. Raghubir Sinh of Sitamau put in immense labour in correcting, clarifying and throwing further light on the places, events, towns etc. mentioned by Col. Tod. With his usual thoroughness, Dr. Raghubir Sinh gives exact location of almost every place mentioned in the "Travels", corrects the names of the towns and people which an Englishman could not pronounce properly, and gives additional information about Tod's statements which were based on the information personally gathered by him from individuals, inscriptions; historical works and legends. It will be no exaggeration to say that without the help of Dr. Raghubir Sinh's annotations and observations, one can understand or use Tod's "Travels in Western India" only partially. The value of Dr. Raghubir Sinh's contribution in the form of this volume will be appreciated by every serious scholar of Indian history and is a testimony to his amazing scholarship, if one at all is needed. This volume is thus essential in understanding correctly Col. James Tod's remarkably informative travel account written in his inimitable style." (jacket).…
