In den WarenkorbHardcover. Zustand: Near Fine. No Jacket. Cox, Maurice (illustrator). 1st Edition. The First UK Printing published by Private Libraries Association, Pinner in 1991. Small folio; black morocco-backed black boards, decoratively lined in gilt; 'Gogmagog' embossed in gilt to the spine; maroon endpapers; proliferated throughout with illustrations in black and white and full colour, as well as nine additional specimens tipped in at the rear, of which three are additionally signed, numbered and captioned by Maurice Cox in pencil; housed in the original cloth slipcase; The BOOK is in near Fine condition with a minuscule spot of discolouration at the head, but otherwise fine in like slipcase which has a couple of tiny spots. This is number '11' of just 69 copies issued of the special limited edition, specially bound in full morocco and signed by Morris Cox. The trade edition was issued in an orange cloth format, unsigned and without the extra specimens to the rear. A tribute to the work of Morris Cox as printer, poet and novelist. Born and raised in London, Cox (1903-1998) received a scholarship to the West Ham School of Art at the age of just thirteen. After training for six years he worked in advertising before turning his hand to printmaking, painting and dustwrapper design, as well as penning a number of novels and numerous poems. This book also includes an invaluable annotated bibliography of the Gogmagog Press, which Cox founded in 1957. Through the press, 35 titles of his highly original, beautifully illustrated, hand-made and limited edition books followed between 1957 and 1983. The name derives from Cox's interest in mythology and folklore, with the character referring to a giant who lived in Cornwall during the 12th century. A wonderful example.
