Essays include 'Letter on the Obsequium Catholicon, and Cures by it' by Alexander Pope, 'The Pineal Gland discovered' by Berkeley, and 'Of Courtship-Questions and Rules for' by Steele.Vol II includes one-hundred and seventy-five of the newspaper issues, including the final issue from the first of October. Aus finanziellen Gründen konnte er sein Studium in Oxford nicht beenden, sondern war genötigt, zügig durch schriftstellerische Tätigkeiten Geld zu verdienen. First published between 1794 and 1809, this work was completed and continued by various contributors after the authors death. This includes a full edit by Milner's brother, Isaac Milner, and a new continuation by John Scott in 1826. In this work, Milner provides a comprehensive history of the Church from the days of the apostles until the famous disputation between Luther and Miltitz in 1520. This particular edition has been edited, with a continuation to the present time by the Rev. A lovely edition of a work which was first issued in 1802. Written by John Home, a Scottish minister, soldier and author. He wrote the famed play 'Douglas', which was a standard Scottish school text until the mid twentieth century. A history of the rebellion of 1745, also known as the Jacobite rising. It was an attempt by Charles Edward Stuart to regain the British throne for his father, James Francis Edward Stuart, but ended in January 1746 with the defeat at Culloden.Rebacked, in a full calf signed binding by Riviere.With the bookplate of T&M James to the front free endpaper, and a further bookplate reading 'Ne Obliviscaris' to the front pastedown.A lovely copy of this work. Whilst it is complete, the pages are out of consequential order. A most pleasing copy that would not look out of place on the grandest of shelves. Half-leather. The title page has an antique signature of a previous owner: "R M B & E Angell / Saville Row". Leathered corners and spine are benign and venerable. They have wear about. The spine has five ridges. Gilt titling on the second panel (bright); the other panels have gilt decoration (amiable). The marbled boards have wear about the edges, they have scuffing and light shelving marks. They are secure and youthfully sound. The contents are in most pleasing condition. There of course some age related marks.
