Laith McGregors publication forges a somewhat unlikely dialogue between the artists often divergent processes and aesthetic outcomes. Drawing on two very different but interlinked bodies of work McGregors long-running Island Drawings and more recent Island Collages the book juxtaposes the Australian artists meticulously rendered, monochromatic drawings with his spontaneous, color-rich and playfully formal collages. 'Archipelago' skirts a line between artist book and monograph, wrangling McGregors works in a loose, intuitive fashion, all the while affording them the critical attention they demand.

About the book >.>.> Photographs as medium of communication When I began my lifelong career as a journalist more than forty years ago, the first piece of advice my editor gave me was about the importance of photographs, emphasising the point by using the maxim that one photo was worth a thousand words. A news story without photos was regarded as lacking a sense of 'proof' that something had really happened. Two years later, after my colleagues and I were sent for training at a journalism school in Khartoum, photography was one of the subjects we all took. It was both theoretical and practical. It is with this in mind that I write in response to my daughter Atong Atem's work - forty years later and all the way in Australia - which combines family archives with self-portraits as a way of preserving our history. In the early 1980s, I became the head of the department of information for the Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM). In that capacity, I was able to capture a photograph that made history in many ways. In June 1984, the rebel movement was g.

An error has occurred is based around a core series of large-format photographs that Hutchinson took during an expedition to the Arctic in early 2017. The focus of the expedition was to record and document the beauty, immensity and diversity of the Arctic landscape in this particular moment. Upon returning to Australia, Hutchinson set about reinterpreting and expanding the scope of the resulting photographs in a bid to respond to the impact of climate change on the Arctic region.

Softcover. Zustand: New Book. First Edition. 30cm x 20.5cm. [88] pages, colour illustrations, 1 folding. Pictorial french fold wrappers. "Danielle Mericle's The Dark Wood explores broad questions of history and our collective ability to document and learn from the past. Through intertwined images of abandoned Greco-Roman casts, an ancient Sequoia forest and the artistÂ's own texts, Mericle invites us to consider history as a fluid process rather than a static truth. The once highly valued casts -- which appear in the book as original and archival photographs -- were rejected as worthless copies during the early part of the 20th century, under the belief that they lacked the artistry and aura of the originals, despite the fact that many of the Â'originalsÂ' were in fact Roman copies of Greek artefacts. During the two World Wars, many of these Â'originalsÂ' were damaged or destroyed, and the casts are now considered some of the most authoritative versions available. A Sequoia forest in Northern California offers two important counterpoints. Ancient Sequoia tree rings chart the rise and fall of civilisations over the last 3000 years, including those that created the Greco-Roman artefacts. The tree rings position human history within a broader geological timeframe, lending an adjusted perspective to the human enterprise. The rings also reveal the complex history and shifting perspectives on the significance of fire in the region, with the dissonant histories of expansive logging practices, the conservation movement, Indigenous knowledge, and climate change playing out against the troubled fate of the ancient Sequoias. Though we attempt to understand and preserve our past, the endeavour is subject to inevitable shifts in knowledge, the whims of ideology, and the vagaries of historical truth. With an epilogue that grounds the complex sequence of images in personal elegy, The Dark Wood re-calibrates our sense of scale by allowing us to locate a sense of mourning, loss and the specifics of our own narratives within the broad and unfixed framework of history." Shifting her gaze to young model and champion equestrienne Lauren Devaney, Parsons joined Devaney and her family on their biannual pilgrimage from their home in Arizona to the Music Meadows ranch in Westcliffe, Colorado. Spanning summer and winter - fast-paced rodeo competition and lonely ranch work amidst the dramatic Colorado landscape - the series sidles both joy and tragedy, as Parsons' soft gaze renders Devaney, her wider family, their horses and the uniquely American landscapes their lives occupy.
