Virgil Burnett received a Fulbright Scholarship, which enabled him to study in France, where he came under the influence of printer Maurice Darantiere. That inspired Burnett to a career in book arts. He started his own press, this one, the Pasdeloup Press, which he continued after joining the faculty of the University of Waterloo. "It began printing books that evoke the craftsmanship and individual vision that can be seen in the creation of medieval manuscripts and the work of William Morris, Charles Ricketts, and other participants of the 19th-century revival of printing, further speaking to his desire to reclaim the personal and detail-oriented process of publishing of the medieval era. In later years, Pasdeloup published tributes to artists that influenced or inspired Burnett." - Helen Farley. Farley curated an exhibition of Virgil Burnett, and asserts that "Le Roi S'Amuse (1966) was the first Pasdeloup Press publication. HOWEVER, WorldCat - which cites only two holding for this work (none in Illinois) - dates this book to 1964?, which would appear to make this the first book from the press.…
