The word Shakya is another form of kshatriya. The real name of Buddha was Siddhartha. He spent his childhood in comfort and pleasure. Once he happened to see a sick man, an old man and a dead body, the sight of which erode the innocent child quite thoughtful. He therefore, began to think upon a way to remove the sufferings and pain from the world, bringing about peace and comfort to one and all. Siddhartha wandered from place to place, alone learning from various teachers, but the mental peace still eluded him. Once on a full moon day, while he was still in meditation under a banyan tree, he got enlightenment. From that day onwards, he came to be known as Buddha. Buddha Carita is a poetic marvel by the great poet Ashvaghosha which depicts the entire life sketch or biography of Buddha in an exhaustive manner. This epic comprises of twenty eight sargas in which the life and teachings of Buddha have been brought out. It was translated into Chinese in the 7th Century AD and was subsequently translated into the Tibetan language. The present edition of Buddha Carita is the first of its type that includes Sanskrit text, side by side English translation and also photographs of archaeological importance at appropriate places in the text itself. At last, an index of Sanskrit verses is also provided for the benefit of the readers and researchers.

The present edition of Yajurveda with English version of Mahidhara and Uvata's commentary by Griffith has become conspicuous with the following salient features The old usage of English version has been replaced by the corresponding modern usage in order that the contents of the translation may be easily made out even by a layman. For instance the old pronominal forms like thy thou thee thine etc. have been replaced by the corresponding terms in modern English. The old English usage of verbal forms has also been supplanted with the corresponding usage in modern English. Some of the Vedic terms like Savita hota etc. were used in the English version in an inappropriate manner like Savitar hotar etc. by Griffith. In the present edition such Vedic terms have been retained in their true form. Griffith's version simply transliterate Sanskrit phonemes in Roman ones without any aid of diacriticals. Keeping in view the dearth of diacritical marks a proper care has been taken to equip the Sanskrit phonemes with appropriate diacriticals in the present edition. The most notable feature of this edition is that it contains the original Mantras in Devanagiri script and complete index of Yajurveda mantras for ready reference. Griffith didn't reproduce the Mahidhara and Uvata's translation on the Mantras (20 31) of the 23 chapter. According to him the subject nine stanzas (20 29) are not reproducible even in the semi obscurity of a learned European language and stanzas 30 31 would be unintelligible without them. In fact the stanzas don't have any pornographic colour as has been depicted by Mahidhara and Uvata in their translations. Hence the present author deems it fit and proper to render the actual intent of the above mentioned 11 stanzas so that the readers may not be mislead by the translations of Mahidhara and Uvata and the Griffith's remarks thereof. 524 pp.

The Upanishads are philosophical and theological mystical treatises forming the third division of the Veda; the preceding portions being the Mantras or Hymns, which are largely prayers, and the Brahmanas or sacrificial rituals- the utterance, successively, of poet, priest and philosopher. There are tw…o great departments of the Veda. The first is called Karma-kanda, the department of works, which embraces both Mantras and Brahmanas; and is followed by the vast majority of persons whose action of religion is laying up of merit by means of ceremonial prayers and sacrificial rites. The second is called Jnana-kanda, the department of knowledges- the theosophic portion of the Vedic revelation; and this is embraced by the Upanishads, and is intended for the select few who are capable of attaining the true doctrine. The most important of the Upanishads belong to what are called Aranyakas or forest-books, which form an appendix to the Brahmanas; and, treating as they do of the release of the soul from metaphsychosis, by means of a recognition of the oneness of its real nature with the great impersonal Self, are so profound that they were required to be read in the solitude of forests, by persons, who, having performed all the duties of a student and a house-holder, retired from the world to and their days in the contemplation of the Deity. The Upanishads undoubtedly represent the highest product of the Indian mind; and one of the most imposing and subtle of the systems of ontology yet known in the history of philosophy; and the Vedanta, styled by Shankaracharya 'the string upon which the gems of the Upanishads are strung,' is regarded as the finest flower and the ripest fruit of Indian spirituality. They contain the highest authority on which the various systems of Indian philosophy rest; and are practically the only portion of Vedic literature which is extensively studied by orthodox educated Hindus in the present day. The Mahabharata is a curious mixture of history and mythology, though the former aspect is the subject of grave doubts in the minds of the professional historians. This is called the fifth Veda and it is universally acknowledged to be of pre-eminent importance. It extols its greatness itself in the following words: Yad ihasti tad anyatra yan nehasti na tat kvacit (Whatever is here is also elsewhere; whatever is not here is extant nowhere). It contains not only the celebrated Gita but also a large number of other texts which are themselves independent treatises. It is a valuable product of the ancient Indian literature of the Post-Vedic age and seems to go back to the prehistoric stage of the human society. This is first time that English translation with Sanskrit text is being published. The translation is based on M.N. Dutta which is very lucid and accurate according to the Sanskrit text. It was translated according to that time available text of Kolkata edition. However, this text is not available now and we have arranged it through the text of Chitrashala Press, Pune, which is an authentic and complete text of the Mahabharata. And according to this, sometimes, we do not find the translation of many slokas, that translation has been completed by the editors. (jacket).
