The leather is slightly rubbed and bumped. Volume 1: The front hinge has burst, causing the front cover and end sheet to be loose. Heraldic ex-Libris (Serjeantson of Hanlith) in the front inner covers. Volume 1 with an engraved portrait of the author as a frontispiece. The inner cover and end caps are more glue-shaded along the edges, with a slight touch on the title page and the last page. The interior itself is clean and firm. Overall, really well preserved, decorative specimen. --- 7 Original-Ganzlederbände mit Kurztitel und Bandnummer in Goldprägung auf rotem und grünem Rückenschild, floralem Rückenschmuck, Kantenvergoldungen sowie rotem Dreiseitenschnitt. Das Leder ist geringfügig berieben und bestoßen. Band 1: Vorderes Außengelenk ist geplatzt, dadurch sind Vorderdeckel und Vorsatzblatt lose. Heraldisches Exlibris ( Serjeantson of Hanlith ) in den vorderen Innendeckeln. Band 1 mit einem gestochenen Porträt des Autors als Frontispiz. Magnifique ouvrage sur la Thaïlande illustré de 50 superbes compositions orientalistes de Joseph de La Nézière (le titre indique de façon erronée H. de la Nézière), dont 10 hors-textes et de 10 planches décoratives, le tout superbement mis en couleurs au pochoir.Tiré à 350 exemplaires, 1 des 50 sur Japon (N°62) avec un état en noir (en fait alternativement en noir et en bleu), papier de tête après 12 ex. sur Japon avec aquarelle originale et suite en couleurs et avant 288 ex. sur vélin.Joseph de La Nézière (1873-1944), peintre français. Frère de Raymond de La Nézière, célèbre illustrateur, il a exercé son talent artistique de peintre comme portraitiste, paysagiste, affichiste, journaliste voyageur dans les pays lointains, a peint des dioramas et fait des timbres-poste en France, Moyen-Orient et Afrique. Poh-Dèng est apparemment le seul livre qu'il ait illustré. Provenance : Moïse Lévy de Benzion avec son ex-libris gravé sur bois en couleurs représentant une statue égyptienne. Né à Alexandrie en 1873 et mort en 1943, il était chef d'entreprise et collectionneur appartenant à la communauté des juifs d'Égypte, et propriétaire d'un grand magasin du Caire. Il avait réuni une importante collection d'art et d'antiquités dont la partie située en France, comptant près de mille pièces, fut pillée par les nazis durant la Seconde Guerre mondiale. La majorité des livres a été restituée entre 1946 et 1948, très certainement grâce à cet ex-libris (voir Martine Poulain, Livres pillés, lecture surveillée, Les bibliothèques françaises sous l'occupation, NRF Essais, 2008). Une partie de la Collection Lévy de Benzion s'est vendue aux enchères au Caire en 1947 (900 lots, dont livres).Réf. biblio. : Carteret IV, 343 : " Edition recherchée et cotée ".
