Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - Buller as a fighting soldier in West and South AfricaRedvers Buller was one of the notable British military figures of the later Victorian period. His early career was spent in China and in Canada during the Red River Campaign, but most notably he served in West Africa during the Ashanti War of 1874 under Garnet Wolseley. It was in 1878, once again in Africa, that Buller laid the foundations for his ultimate renown. He joined Major-General Thesiger, later Lord Chelmsford, in company with Evelyn Wood for the Ninth Kaffir War, becoming commander of the Frontier Light Horse. Before long the war with Cetawayo's Zulus erupted. Buller was notably in action on Inhlobane Mountain, where he won his V.C, Kambula and Ulundi. This never before available Leonaur book contains two perspectives on Buller's African campaigns, derived from works covering his entire career. The first benefits from the inclusion of extensive passages from Buller's own journal and correspondence, which contain essential battlefield descriptions. The second work not only provides a contrasting perspective, but additionally covers Buller's service during the First Boer War. Historian, James Grant's account of the disastrous action at Inhlobane Mountain concludes this unique and invaluable history, which also includes many illustrations and maps.Leonaur editions are newly typeset and are not facsimiles; each title is available in softcover and hardback with dustjacket.…

Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - From defeat to counter-attack in the footsteps of HannibalGeorge Furse was a colonel of the Black Watch regiment and an accomplished military historian and author. His writing was never less than serious, well researched and comprehensive. For 'The Second War of Coalition' (originally published under the inadequate title 'Marengo and Hohenlinden') Furse has referenced source material originally published in the French language including first-hand recollections and official documents. This Leonaur edition is being published in two unique volumes to enable us to include, for the first time, numerous illustrations of the events described.Volume one commences in 1799 as Napoleon Bonaparte was elevated from solely military rank to First Consul of France. The war, as described here, was initially well fought by the Austrians and the Russians, so that the French were cast out of Italy retaining only footholds in Genoa and on the Ligurian shore. Napoleon then employed his military genius to invade Italy by a master-stroke-crossing his army over the Alps. Leonaur editions are newly typeset and are not facsimiles; each title is available in softcover and hardback with dustjacket.…
