FIRST EDITION, the last couple of gatherings on browned paperstock, pp. 166, crown 8vo, original brown cloth, backstrip lettered in black, pictorial dustjacket (the design to front signed with the initials N.S.U.), backstrip gently faded, some spotting to the plain rear panel, a little rubbed at extreities with the odd tiny nick, very good. The author's debut, scarce; a novel depicting, as his short Preface puts it, 'Austria "at peace" under Nazi rule! [.] seen through ordinary English eyes' these presumably the author's own (he dates his note Wienerwald 1938, London 1941'), his experiences of the regime also forming the basis of two subsequent novels, 'And Wait the Issue' (about the French Resistance) and 'None So Blind' (a near-future vision of Germany as it struggles to dispel the threat of Nazism).
