Josef Hoflehner (illustrator). Gr.-8°. [48] S. mit 28 Abb. in Duotone-Druck. OLn. mit illustr. OU. Erste Ausgabe. - Von J. Hoflehner auf dem Titel signiert. - "I like empty spaces," Josef Hoflehner has said. "I like to mix up or change my style often, and to experiment with focus and time. Somehow, it is the seemingly most desolate landscapes that have the greatest impact on me." - "Today, Hoflehner is represented by leading photography art galleries worldwide, and his exquisite prints are found in a constantly growing number of public, private and corporate collections around the globe. His work was subject to more than 50 solo-exhibitions to date and was featured in the Wall Street Journal, L.A. Times, Süddeutsche Zeitung, Newsweek and Financial Times. He is known for his dramatic black-and-white landscape and subtle color images" (josefhoflehner-Homepage). - Sehr gutes Exemplar. Sprache: deutsch.

Square Folio. 100pp. Original black cloth with glossy black lettering on cover and spine, in original photo-illustrated dustjacket, white and blue lettering on spine. Frontispiece. Title page printed in blue and black. "There is a peculiar verb in English which doesn't decline very well, the verb to matter. Hoflehner expects his pictures to matter. They're pretty enough, of course they are, and a pleasure simply to sample with the eye. But if youthink of any view in this collection merely as a pleasantly harmonious frameful of grey tones, you haven't done thinking about it. Because Josef Hoflehner photographs with the full resources of his wide culture fully engaged. This is not the photography of f/stops and film grades. This is the rarer photography, of someone who wants to address an audience and expects us to be moved and thoughtful in return. And in the proper sense of the word, it approaches the sublime." (Hodgson). Illsutrated with sixty-three high quality full page offset reproductions of b/w photographs. A retrospective collection of Hoflehner's minimalist photographs. Signed Josef Hoflehner on title page. Illustrated with more than sixty striking full page photographs. "It's mid February and the days are still short up here close to the Northern Arctic Circle. The weather report for the next few days doesn't bode well. A powerful blizzard is prophesied, with heavy snowfalls, gale-force winds and temperatures falling down to 15 degrees Celsius below zero. We were urgently advised that now was not the right time to leave for the craggy West Fjords of Iceland, for the thinly populated and nearly deserted area. Yet it's precisely these weather conditions that particularly appeal to me and I am already looking forward to this remote part of Iceland." (Hoflehner). Text in English and German. Photo-illustrated dustjacket, blue lettering on spine. Original black textured paper-covered boards with blind-stamped lettering on cover and spine. "Figurative minimalism effectively dominates Josef Hoflechner's photographs. How far this minimalism goes is illustrated hereby an image from the "Snowscapes" series. Unleashed, meaning uncoupled from narrative content and described object representations leaves the photographs open to a broad spectrum of approaches and interpretations. Nevertheless, the work does not fall into aimless ambiguity open to any interpretation, or topple into a flood of images that avoids a clear message with its overabundance. Rather, Josef Hoflehner successfully endeavors with figurative austereness and minimalism; he creates an aesthetic framework, in which the viewer's fantasy can unfold without forcing the images." (Kaindl). Illustrated with captioned full page b/w photographs throughout. Shrinkwrap opened carefully at gallery for signature by Hoflehner.
