'Homunculus' is bound in the publisher's original tan cloth with white titles to the spine, in the Ferret illustrated dustwrapper. Patterned endpapers. 'The Digging Leviathan' is bound in the publisher's original black cloth with red titles to the spine, in the Ferret illustrated dustwrapper. With six black and white illustrations by Ferret. A near fine copy, the binding square and firm, with a little bumping to the spine tips. The contents, with a touch of spotting to the fore-edge of the text block, are clean throughout, and without previous owners' inscriptions or stamps. Complete with the lightly rubbed and creased dustwrapper, which has light spotting to the underside of the front panel and flap folds, with a small mark and a couple of spots to the underside of the upper rear flap which are visible to the printed side. Not price-clipped (£35.00 to the lower front flap). 'The Magic Spectacles' is bound in the publisher's original red cloth with yellow titles to the spine, in the Ferret illustrated dustwrapper. Patterned endpapers. With twenty black and white illustrations by Ferret. A near fine copy, the binding square and firm, with a small bump to the tail of the spine. The contents, with a touch of spotting to the fore-edge of the text block, are clean throughout, and without previous owners' inscriptions or stamps. Complete with the bright and fresh dustwrapper, which is lightly rubbed at the extremities, and with a couple of spots to the underside of the flap folds. Not price-clipped (£45.00 to the lower front flap). Together with the light green stapled card pamphlet 'A Word About The Author' by William Ashbless, black titles printed to the front panel, and black illustrations and borders printed to both panels. A near fine copy, the binding square and firm, lightly faded to the stapled fold. The contents, with the author, illustrator, and contributor's signatures on the rear endpaper and rear panel, are otherwise clean throughout, and without previous owners' inscriptions or stamps. Housed in the near fine, structurally sound slipcase, which is lightly scuffed to the spine and bottom edges. Issued in an edition of 50 copies, from which this example is numbered 23, and signed by the author James P. Blaylock and illustrator Ferret in blue and black ink, respectively, on the rear panel of the supplementary pamphlet, and by William Ashbless in black ink on the rear endpaper. Ashbless is the pseudonym for the collaborative writing of James P Blaylock and science fiction author Tim Powers, while Ferret is one of several pseudonyms used by science fiction book illustrator and author Timothy MacNamara. 'The Digging Leviathan' (1984) is the eponymous first novel in the series, set in a modern Los Angeles atop a giant underground sea. Winner of the 1988 Philip K Dick Award for best paperback original, 'Homunculus' has been described as a thematic prequel to 'Leviathan' and serves as the first volume of the Langdon St Ives sequence, a steampunk science fiction series set in a Dickensian nineteenth-century London. In den WarenkorbFirst edition, first printing. Limited edition, signed by the author and Gene Wolfe. Publisher's original purple cloth with white titles to the spine, in the Neil McCall illustrated dustwrapper and purple cloth slipcase. A fine copy, the binding square and firm, the cloth bright and fresh. The contents are clean throughout and without previous owners' marks. Complete with the fine original dustwrapper that is without fading, loss or tears. Not price-clipped (£35.00 to the lower front flap). Housed in the lightly rubbed, structurally sound slipcase. Issued in a limited edition of 260 copies, this example is numbered 148 and signed by R. A. Lafferty and Gene Wolf on the illustrated limitation page. There was also a trade edition of 750 copies (completing 1010 copies in total). Unique to this limited edition is Gene Wolfe's essay 'Scribbling Giant' and an additional story from Lafferty 'The Story of Little Brir-Rose'. A characteristically intricate, imaginatively far-flung Lafferty novel involving the Twenty One Pillars of Rectitude, the Seven Saints to insure the sanity of the World, the Seven Technicians to insure its correct mechanical working, and Seven Scribbling Giants to write its scenarios and histories. The extended, and wonderfully named, cast of characters listed at the start of the book includes Hilary Ardri, the Computerized Fish Tycoon, Gorgonius Pantera, piano-maker of the German Alps, Drusilla Evenrood, an East Sussex Lady, and Countess Maude Grogley, mother of Laughter-Lynn Casement (to name just a handful).
