Die Schwerpunktsetzungen werden in Zukunft wechseln, aber die grundsätzliche Intention wird erhalten bleiben. Zwischenwelt drückt ein Moment der Nicht-Zurechenbarkeit, das die Figuren Theodor Kramers auszeichnet, aus. Sie sind nicht Teil des offiziellen Gefüges; ihre Schicksale und Haltungen entziehen sich den herkömmlichen historischen Verallgemeinerungen. Der Titel Zwischenwelt enthält aber auch eine Anspielung auf die Intermundien (Zwischenwelten), in denen nach Epikur die Götter eine Heimstatt inmitten eines atomistisch aufgefaßten Universums finden sollten. Vielleicht waren die Götter für Epikur eher eine Verlegenheit, Schemen vergangener Zeiten, die er nur durch eine Sonderregelung in seinen Kosmos aufnehmen konnte. Die Gegenwart befindet sich mit der Literatur des Exils in ähnlicher Verlegenheit. Überhaupt ist heute auf allen Gebieten eine mächtige Tendenz zur Homogenisierung und Ausgrenzung vorhanden (die sich oft mit einem Bedürfnis nach Harmonie verwechselt), welche alle Kunst und Literatur, die nicht das Lob unserer Zeit singt, in eine Zwischenwelt verweist, von der nicht entschieden ist, ob sie ein Asyl des Übriggebliebenen oder ein Laboratorium des Künftigen ist. Die seit 1984 erscheinende Zeitschrift der Theodor Kramer Gesellschaft Mit der Ziehharmonika erscheint seit dem Jahr 2000 ebenfalls unter dem Titel Zwischenwelt.
