Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Good. First Edition. London, Macmillan and Co., Limited, for the Byzantine Research and Publication Fund, 1920. Large quarto (380 × 283 mm), xii, 78 pages with numerous illustrations (some from photographs) plus 14 plates (3 folding). Flush-cut cloth-backed limp boards; covers slightly worn; corners bumped; top edge very slightly cockled; endpapers and adjacent leaves tanned; a few other minor signs of age and handling; a very good copy with the good dustwrapper (tanned and a little worn, with some minor loss about the spine). One of the scarce monographs of the Byzantine Research and Publication Fund, in association with the British School at Athens. The Panagia Ekatontapiliani or Panagia Katapoliani, at Parikia on the island of Paros, is an early fourth-century church complex remodelled in the sixth century under the emperor Justinian. 'In the spring of the year 1910 Mr. H.H. Jewell, a Gold Medallist and Travelling Student of the Royal Academy of Arts . visited Paros . for the purpose of making studies of the group of Churches there'; he completed his work on 'the description and discussion of the architectural features' on a subsequent visit. He also provided the drawings and the bulk of the photographs for the book. 'The late Mr. F.W. Hasluck, while Assistant Director of the British School at Athens . undertook . to write chapters on the History of the Churches and the Inscriptions' (preface).
