First thus edition hard back binding in publisher's original faded light green paper over stiff boards, green cloth spine, gilt title lettering to the front cover, different illustrations to the paste downs. 4to. 11½'' x 9¼''. The Rubáiyát has unnumbered pages comprising 75 quatrains enriched with 17 full-page single-sided and vignette monochrome illustrations throughout by William George Stirling. Stated first edition to the title page and stamped number 427 of a limited edition of 1000 (?) copies, colophon for Fraser & Neave Ltd., Singapore to the last leaf. Issue heavily discussed and commented on by the Rubáiyát collectors, which alternates between ornamentation, symbolism and esotericism due to the oriental and art nouveau character of the illustrations. The second sheet with a monogram 'WGS' William George Stirling. Sheet 29 with hand-blacked over-painting of the symbolic genitals of the female figure. Irregular sun fading to the the covers, foxing to the end papers, beyond which the sheets used are a superior quality and are in Fine condition. Member of the P.B.F.A. Rubáiyát of Omar Khayyám.

Ces poèmes orientaux ont été largement traduits en Anglais et la version d'Edward Fitzgerald ( 1809 - 1883) est la plus couramment utilisée dans le monde anglo saxon. c'est aussi celle utilisée dans notre édition. Cette édition est restée longtemps assez mystérieuse. De nombreux spécialistes s'y sont penchés. The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam, imprimé par Fraser & Neave Ltd., Singapore, dans une édition numérotée (le tirage serait limité à 1000 exemplaire, mais ce n'est pas certain à part que à ce jour on n'a pas trouvé d'exemplaire au delà de 999). La page suivant le titre, mentionne une curieuse phrase. New Lamps for Old, lit by devant un monogramme à déchiffrer. On en a conclu que la phrase peut signifier : "les Poèmes à la nouvelle lumière de l'illustrateur ". Sur le monogramme un oeil averti pourra distinguer 3 lettres empilées : W G S , que l'on peut donc attribuer à William George Stirling (1887 1951). Visiblement Lotus Library Publication ne sortira pas d'autre livre que celui ci. Ce livre est le seul et unique témoignage de cette maison d'édition. L'exemplaire est donc doublement rare. Couverture de couleur jadéite, avec titre en or sur le premier plat. Reste de la couverture muette. Page de titre, le sceau LOTUS en rouge. 17 illustrations hors texte par William George Stirling - Tirage limité (N° 721). Usures sur la couverture.
