Soft cover. Zustand: Good. Blue illustrated grey yapp wraps 15x22cm. 80pp with many b/w photos and adverts. Covers good, worn along the edges, interiors very good. The text block is loose from the spine, but still secure to the lower wrap. Undated but 1928 based on the latest progress update spotted in the text for May 1928 (p27). Possibly the first edition, with none earlier than this recorded on Worldcat. (An updated edition appeared c1930). Contents include Imperial Airways' stations, town offices and aerodromes, its history, present situation, maintenance, England and the Channel from the air, the route to Switzerland, Brussels and Cologne, and the Middle East route. The latter was launched in January 1927 from Cairo to Basra "for passengers, mail and urgent merchandise a vital link in the great Imperial chain". It forecasts completion of the route to Karachi and on to Autralia, how aircraft have been adapted for the climate with wind scoops distributing "a continuous current of cool filtered air", air and ship connections, etc (pp71-72). Adverts feature aircraft manufacturers, high end retailers (some names still relevant today), travel and freight companies, hotels including the Selsdon Park Hotel near the Aerodrome in Croydon, etc.…

Covers good only, marked, and worn along the edges, lean to spine, interiors very good. Undated but 1930 based on latest date spotted in the text 16 June 1930 (p22) and reference to the Alexandria-Tanganyika service due to start in Jan 1931 (p21). Contents include Imperial Airways' stations, town offices and aerodromes, its history, present situation, maintenance, England and the Channel from the air, the journeys to Switzerland, Brussels and Cologne, and finally the England-India Air Mail: "Truly it seems more like magic than reality to ascend from London on Saturday and to be at Alexandria on the following Monday evening; to be at Gaza on Tuesday morning; at Baghdad on Tuesday evening; at Basra on Wednesday; and in India on Friday" (p65). …
