Neuware -This study explores taxation literature and uses empirical evidence from the period of 1996-2006 to examine tax competition and tax harmonization in Southeast Asia. The study seeks evidence for the existence of tax competition by analyzing recent trends in two groups of measures of taxation: tax rates and tax revenues. Evidence is found for a decline in statutory corporate tax rates, developments commensurate with the existence of tax competition. On the contrary, the tax revenue data presented here, show that the expected decline in total tax revenues has not occurred; indeed, a significant increase has been recorded. It is also supported by empirical evidence of the ratio of corporate tax revenue either relative to GDP or to total tax revenue. The two groups of measures of taxation thus provide apparently inconsistent views of the impact of tax competition. There follows an analysis of the elements of tax competition according to literature, in an attempt to draw out its implications for the experience within the Southeast Asian region. It identified the methods used by the female teachers in the practice of safer sex and determined the influence of the demographic variables of age, religion, level of education and husbands'' educational level on their sexual negotiation skills and safer sex practices. The descriptive survey design was employed. The population consists of married female teachers selected from both public and private secondary schools. Stratified sampling technique was used to select 150 married female teachers from 10 secondary schools. The results of this study showed that the major methods of practicing safer sex adopted by the majority of respondents were completely avoiding sexual intercourse till pregnancy is desired (80.0%), avoiding sexual intercourse on days when conception is most likely (57.7%), injections taken periodically (50.0%) and I.U.D. (50.0%). At the same time, volunteering is widely promoted as an urgent intervention to combat social problems in the receiving countries, problems such as poverty, inequality, hunger and diseases. Based on the widespread assumption that there is a growing need for volunteers, the present study discusses international volunteering in educational institutions in Cape Town. The study examines two programmes in Cape Town offered to international volunteers, presents the positive and negative outcomes of these programmes and analyses their value for all parties concerned. The data gathered during eight weeks of fieldwork resulted in many positive responses from both sides which, in turn, were significant indicators of the success of the programmes. However, existing power relations between so-called First and Third World countries are often reproduced in such programmes since they are predominantly offered in 'Third World' countries. By using the four interest rate models, estimated option prices are compared with the real observed prices for the begining work days of each months of the years 2007 and 2008. The models are then evaluated according to the sum of squared errors. Then, the hedging portfolio for claims whose payoff function depends on the prices of the stock and the power-jump assets at maturity is derived. In addition to the previous completion strategy, it is also shown that, using a static hedging formula, the market can also be completed by considering portfolios with a continuum of call options with different strikes and the same maturity. What is more, the portfolio optimization problem is considered in the enlarged market. The optimization problem consists of choosing an optimal portfolio in such a way that the largest expected utility of the terminal wealth is obtained. Three entrepreneurs have been chosen for the research, the berry wine producer Teisko''s Wine Lodge; the programme and accommodation provider Knuutila Manor House; and Restaurant Henriks where safe and tasty food are prepared from local organic ingredients. Personal interviews were conducted with entrepreneurs, based on five semi-structured themes with structured interview questions. Based on the research questions, results demonstrate that entrepreneurs benefit from joining local alternative agri-food networks. However, there are common characteristics between the firms, the studied enterprises cannot be generalized. The three entrepreneurs are unique and have special values within their own local networks. Even though the entrepreneurs do not consider themselves green activists, observation shows their interests to be environmental entrepreneurs. Neuware -This dissertation investigates the causes and consequences of the goodwill reporting choices made by Canadian firms following the adoption of revised standards on purchased goodwill in 2002. First, I show that transitional goodwill impairment losses are associated with managers' incentives to both overstate and understate them. Furthermore, independent board of directors and audit committees act as a constraint on Canadian managers' goodwill reporting choices to ensure that the economic value of goodwill is better reflected in financial statements. Second, I show that investors perceive goodwill as an asset, and goodwill impairment losses as sufficiently reliable measurements of a reduction in the value of goodwill to incorporate them in their valuation assessments. Finally, I show that transitional goodwill impairment losses were impounded in stock prices prior to 2002. The purpose of this study is to determine the impact of individual variable (self- efficacy), job variables role clarity, role conflict, role discretion, and role novelty), organizational variable (social support), and non- work variable (culture novelty) on the three dimensions of repatriation adjustment psychological well-being, socio-cultural adjustment, and work adjustment). Data were collected from 104 Malaysian repatriates. It was found that external self- efficacy impacted on psychological well-being and work adjustment. In relationship between job variables with repatriation adjustment, only role conflict showed a negative relationship with psychological well-being. However, the present study was not able to support the relationship between social support and repatriation adjustment. Neuware -This study gives a global summary of the evolution of telephones and economic development around the world, with an interdisciplinary approach based on three major dimensions: a time dimension (from the past to the future), a space dimension (different countries and regions) and a focus dimension (both telephones and economic growth). The analysis uses historical telephone data for 41 major countries over the complete period from 1900 to 2000. A comparative time series analysis is performed using telephone statistics and economic growth as measured in terms of GDP. The analysis shows that, besides the very high correlation between telephones and economic development, there is no general trend for the Granger causality among all countries or regions. Finally, the growth models of mobile telephones and Internet are also considered, even if they do not follow the same patterns of earlier fixed telephones and telegraphs. Enter the afros that emerged during the Black Power movement (BPM) of the 1960s and ''70s, which proclaimed hair as both important and political. By challenging traditional ideals of beauty that devalued natural black features--long, silky, preferably blond hair--afros became part of the larger politics of the BPM in its aims to promote transvaluation. Transvaluation is the mental transition from subordination to self-definition. Thus, with its cultural and historical implications, the politics of afros reflected the BPM''s transvaluative goals. However, where 'nappy' hair once denoted a transformed, self-defining mentality, it morphed several times to denote simply a trendy hairstyle, devoid of transvaluative import. Black female writers of the era address these hair politics in their work.
